Specialty Closet Accessories

Sometimes you want to take the next step and have that something special in your closet. There are a number of handy accessories you can add to the basic configuration of your closet system, but resist the urge to go overboard.
"Don't try to do more than you have room for in your closet," advises Chris McKenry, owner of GetItTogether LA! "Maybe you don't have the space for something you saw in a magazine." Be realistic about the space you have.

See All PhotosHutches
Many homeowners like the versatility of hutches or hutch-style dressers, because they offer both open and closed storage. Available with different drawer and shelf combinations, a tall hutch can also act as a space divider for cohabitation closets.
Islands
Providing a place to pack a suitcase or extra drawers for small items, islands are popular for homeowners with large walk-in closets. But before you invest, you need to consider the configuration of your closet and make sure you have enough space. The rule of thumb is 96" of available space plus the size of the island, and island drawers need to open into your closet. Make sure there is enough room to stand behind the drawers when fully open.
Valet Poles
If you like to plan your outfit for the next day or just want a spot to hang dry cleaning or pack for a trip, a valet pole is a handy addition to your closet. These pull-out poles usually install into a vertical panel in your closet system and come in a variety of colors and finishes.
