DIY Window Cat Perch
Let your kitty gaze outdoors safely from a comfy spot.

Debbie Wolfe
Our new kitten Hermione is way too small to be let outdoors. We often lose her in the house! To give her a new viewing vantage point, we whipped up a window perch for her to safely spy on birds, leaves and just enjoy the view.

Supplies
- 8 inch diameter concrete form (cut to 12-16 inches long, depending on the size of your cat)
- industrial strength glue
- carpet remnant
- utility knife
- 4 large suction cups
- thin synthetic rope
- ruler
- marker

Debbie Wolfe
Draw a straight line across the concrete form. Measure 2 1/2 inches in from each end and make a mark. (Image 1)

Debbie Wolfe
Draw another line 8 inches above the first line. Measure 2 ½ inches from the ends and make a mark. Draw a vertical line to connect the two 2 ½ inch marks on both sides. You should have a square.(Image 2)

Debbie Wolfe
Make a mark 1 inch down from one of the intersections. Repeat on the other side. (Image 3)

Cut out the middle of the concrete form. The cardboard is thick, so carefully score the line several times in order to penetrate. Go slowly to avoid injuries and mistakes. (Image 1)

Debbie Wolfe
Punch a hole through the marks you made earlier. Use the utility knife to make a small hole, then use a screwdriver (or something thick) to make it wider. It needs to be a large enough hole to fit the end of the suction cup. (Image 2)

Debbie Wolfe
Trim the carpet remnant to fit around your concrete form with at least an inch overlap on the ends. Add a generous layer of glue on the underside of the carpet and wrap it around the form. Trim the excess carpet at the end. (Image 1)

Cut the end flaps into small segments before you glue it to the sides. This will help it follow the circular form better. Cut out the carpet from around the middle opening, leaving about ½ inch of carpet all around. Then, glue the excess carpet flaps down to make a smooth opening. Don’t forget to cut through the carpet covering the two small holes. (Image 2)

Cut two 12 inch lengths of rope. Tie one end around the nub of a suction cup. Repeat with another suction cup. Make sure you tie a double knot and make it secure. This will be bearing most of the weight of the perch. Add a dab of glue on the knot for extra security.

Debbie Wolfe
Punch a smaller hole on the opposite end of the opening. Insert the other end of the rope into the hole and tie a double knot. Add a dab of glue for extra security.

The top of the form should look like this.(Image 3)

Attach the suction cups to a clean, dry surface. Make sure they are secure before you let you cat enter.
