The first step is to build the base frame for your daybed using 2x4s. Using the measurements of the mattress you plan to use, cut some 2x4s to form a base like the one shown. Use the 2-inch screws to assemble the base frame parts and make sure to keep all of your corners square to each other.

Install Armrest Support

Cut six 20.5-inch pieces of 2x4 to form the armrest supports. Affix one at each corner and two in the back of the frame as shown. Secure armrest supports to the frame using 2-inch screws.

Fill Voids to Prevent Gaps

Use more 2x4s to fill in the voids between armrests as shown. Attach with 2-inch screws. Use three 2x4s cut to the width of the front spaces to keep the outer dimensions of the frame equal on all sides.

Attach Skirt Plate to Base

Trim out the outside of the frame all the way around the base with the 1x6 pieces. Attach with 1-5/8-inch screws.

Cut two 2x4s to use as the rear corner supports and attach with 2-inch screws

Construct Sides and Armrests

Use the 1x6 pieces to frame out the entire inside of the bed frame’s walls. Secure with 1-5/8-inch screws. Continue to use the 1x6 pieces to frame out the outside walls of the bed frame. Use the remaining 1x6 pieces to cap off the armrests and the backrest. Make sure to screw directly into the 2x4 supports underneath.

Connect Skids to Base Frame

Get a friend to help you lift and center your bed frame on to the 4x4 posts. These serve as the underlying support for your bed. Cut eight 2x4s into 6-inch pieces and use them as blocks to attach the frame to the posts as shown.

Install Plywood Decking

Add plywood decking to support your bed's mattress, but don't fasten it to the frame in case you need access underneath later on.

Sand your project thoroughly, and apply a good waterproof outdoor-grade finish. Once dry, you can install your hanging hardware and hang your swing from a reliable, sturdy structure.
