Go Green

We're all about decorating the whole house for the holidays and that includes your light fixtures as well. Whether your style leans modern or you're more about farmhouse rustic, we have just the design tips to make your chandelier the centerpiece of your holiday decor. When you're done dressing your chandelier, check out our other ideas for decorating Christmas trees, your front porch, the kitchen and even the bathroom.

Our first design is all about keeping it simple and going green. Sometimes, the simplest decoration can be truly elegant. If your chandelier has arms for greenery to rest or hang on, this idea is simple to execute. You will need either faux or fresh garlands or stems. When choosing faux garlands, be sure to select a life-like style that works with your space. Fresh leafy greenery also works beautifully for this concept, especially if you are planning on hosting a family meal. Whichever route you choose to go, make sure you’re generous with the amount of greenery you place on the chandelier to make it lush and full.

Incorporate Winter Whites

Make it feel like it's snowing in your home by adding adorable hanging snowflakes to your chandelier. Hang the snowflakes at varying heights to add interest and make it really feel like they’re falling from the sky. Use a thin white ribbon to hang them and it will look like they are suspended in mid-air. The three-dimensional shape and subtle sparkle will bring a touch of winter to any space. Save money and have fun by crafting the snowflakes with the kiddos (get our tutorial below). And the best part? These snowflakes are not just for the holidays, you can leave them up all winter long.

Create a Forest Canopy

Take a cue from one of HGTV’s top designers, David Bromstad. He transformed his Florida home into a Scandinavian-style winter wonderland. To make the dining table cozier and more inviting, he suspended large branches from the ceiling. The branches conceal the existing plain light fixture but still allow plenty of light to shine down. He then covered the branches in lush greenery and pinecones and added a gnome mascot to help complete the great Northern look.

Hang Holiday Stars

Modern paper ornaments are an easy way to add a fun holiday touch to any space. You can purchase pre-made ornaments or make them yourself to match your decor. (See our tutorial below.) Keep things interesting by adding at least one patterned paper to mix with a few solid colors. Create a variety of sizes to add interest as well. Use a thin metal wire or ribbon to attach the ornaments to the chandelier, making sure to vary the length to make the arrangement more pleasing to the eye. Tip: If your chandelier is in an area where people will be walking under it, keep the paper ornaments high enough that no one will run into them.
