How to Make a Surprise Gift Box for Hanukkah
Delight your recipient with a gift box that's filled with small presents and releases a playful butterfly when opened.

What could possibly be better than a box filled with Hanukkah gifts, cute trinkets and foil-wrapped chocolates? Why, a flying butterfly to top it all off, of course! This year, add a little just-for-fun whimsy to your holiday presents with a wind-up paper butterfly. Your recipients will be delighted to find an added special surprise in their gift.

Materials Needed
- small Hanukkah presents (we chose a pair of fluffy socks)
- chocolate gelt
- confetti
- crinkle paper
- small gift box
- wind-up butterflies
Add Filler
Fill a small gift box with festive-colored crinkle paper (Image 1) and gold confetti stars (Image 2).

Add Presents
Next, add in chocolate gelt and small presents. Make sure to pack the presents to the brim so that when you lay the butterfly on top, it doesn't unwind immediately.

Place Butterfly in Box
Wind up the butterfly according to the manufacturer's directions (ours required 25 turns). Holding it carefully so as not to let it "fly away," place the butterfly into the open gift box and quickly secure it with the lid of the box. If desired, wrap the present at this time.

Gift
Gift the box to your recipient, and watch their face light up as the butterfly flies out.
