pumpkin (scooped and cleaned out)
cookie cutters

rubber mallet
sharp paring knife or pumpkin carving knife

Position Cookie Cutters and Tap

To begin, carve out the pumpkin guts and select a few of your favorite cookie cutters. You could try letters, flowers, stars — virtually any shaped cookie cutter. Pick one and position it on the pumpkin, then tap lightly with a rubber mallet.

Cut Through Shapes With a Knife

Once the carving is done, add a candle and you're good to go. Kids love the pumpkin carving process but the projections of the carvings on the wall are an added bonus.

Once the cookie cutter is all the way through, it's time to get out a knife. Obviously, this is an adults-only step. Keeping the cookie cutter in place, insert your knife and cut through the pumpkin skin. Once the carving is done, add a candle and you're good to go. Kids love the pumpkin carving process but the projections of the carvings on the wall are an added bonus.
