You’ll Need:
- (2) yards upholstery-weight fabric
- (1) yard muslin or scrap fabric
- 44” length of foam or thick batting
- 30” of 3/4” sew-in Velcro
- sewing machine
- fabric scissors

Step 1: Cut Fabric

You will need two 32” x 46” rectangles of upholstery and one 32” x 46” piece of muslin.

Step 2: Sew the Pieces Together

Stack the fabric with the bottom piece right-side up, then the top upholstery piece right-side down, and then the muslin right-side up. Pin the layers together.

Using a 5/8” seam allowance and a short stitch length, sew along the long edge, one short edge, and back up the other long side, leaving one short side open. Finish the raw edges with a zigzag stitch or serger.

Step 3: Add Foam

Slide the foam into the pocket made by the top layer and the muslin.

Step 4: Finish Raw Edge

To seal the foam pocket and finish the raw edges, sew a zigzag or serge the top and muslin layers together and continue around to finish the bottom edge as well.

Step 5: Hem Open Edge

Fold down that zigzagged edge about one inch and sew all the way around. This is slightly tricky with the foam, take it slowly and support the body of the bean bag on a table as you sew.

Step 6: Add Velcro

Fold your bean bag so that the side seams meet in the middle. Attach one side of the Velcro along the hem that runs from the center of the top piece to the center of the bottom piece. Attach the other side of the Velcro along the opposite side.

Step 7: Turn and Stuff

Turn your chair right-side out and fill it with stuffed animals. If you don’t have enough stuffed animals you can add pillows or blankets.

Step 8: Close Up

Seal along the Velcro edge and sit back and relax!
