Edgy, Modern Snake Decor Is Trending

If you've been noticing more snakes in the design space lately, you're not alone. According to the editors of HGTV Magazine, the chic serpent is poised to be the next “it” animal motif, with references popping up (or should we say slithering in?) everywhere.

Why Are Snakes Trending?

Consider these occurences: the Harry Potter universe, with all it's snake imagery, continues to be as present as ever in our collective psyche (and our homes). It's also speculated that Taylor Swift may release Reputation (Taylor's Version) this year; her album most closely associated with serpent symbols. And let's not forget the Lunar New Year, which ushers in — you guessed it — the Year of the Snake.

"We started seeing them everywhere," says Kate Doherty, executive editor, HGTV Magazine. "A designer shared a new project with us with snake cabinet pulls, Jonathan Adler came out with snake-print pickleball paddles and we kept finding countless wallpaper designs with the motif."

So, what makes it a trend? "There’s a saying that if you spot something two times, it’s a coincidence, but three times, it’s a trend. That’s the rule we follow," says Kate. For a motif to be truly trend-worthy, "an editor must present a trio of distinct reasons and sightings," she explains, "and the best ones make the cut."

It's not hard to see why editors and designers are being charmed by snakes right now. "There’s a fine line between whimsical and juvenile with animal motifs, but 2025’s take on snakes is decidedly chic," Kate says. "It's an elevated, elegant way to have fun with your decor."

How to Incorporate Snake Accents Into Your Home

"It's a pretty versatile trend," Kate says. "Since many snake-shaped products — like salad servers, hooks and lamps — are brass, they can easily work into your existing decor." She also notes that little goes a long way with when creating a serpent-chic space. "It's fun and unexpected to pair your classic prints, patterns and solids with one random-but-awesome snake piece!"

As for her own place: "I have my eye on the Bellagio rug from Scout," says Kate. "I love the surprising color palette — you don’t often associate soft pastels with snakes."

If you're not sure if snakes suit your style, try a more subtle nod, like a snake plant — named for it's long, patterned leaves that resemble the reptile. (Bonus: They're super low-maintenance.)
