In addition to its 200 splashing landmarks, water was flowing in the “City of Fountains” during the HGTV Urban Oasis 2024 surprise reveal. Everyone involved was shedding happy tears.

Local Luck

It was the first and only time Anna Bublitz had participated in an HGTV sweepstakes and, out of 56 million entries, hers won! But the best part? Anna lives in Kansas City where HGTV Urban Oasis 2024 is located — the first hometown resident to win in contest history. “I enter a lot of sweepstakes — never won anything like this. I feel like I saved it up for this specific time. I’m okay with not being super lucky until now.”

Anna and her husband Jake signed up for daily email reminders so they wouldn't miss a single chance to win HGTV Urban Oasis 2024. The couple, married since 2021, currently live with their goldendoodle, Henley, in a suburb of Kansas City just 20 minutes away from the dream property. Pumped that HGTV chose a location in her own hometown, the longtime viewer insisted that she and Jake participate. Even then, Anna felt a special bond with the home. After entering the sweepstakes twice daily over the seven-week period she recalled, “When the contest was over, it felt like a void in my daily routine!”

The Surprise Setup

When her best friend, Aubree, picked her up for Saturday brunch, Anna was in full relaxation mode. Not bothering to put on makeup, the Kansas City native threw on a sweatshirt and leggings, grabbed a scrunchie to pull over her wrist, and hopped into Aubree’s truck. The 28-year-old marketing professional didn’t mind making a short detour when her former classmate said she needed to stop and get something for work. After all, she and Aubree had a lot of catching up to do. Minutes later, Anna was speechless.

As a familiar-looking house came into view, Anna was in disbelief as she realized she had won the HGTV Urban Oasis 2024 sweepstakes. “I was completely shocked,” she remembered. “I’m not a very suspicious person to begin with. When my husband proposed to me, I had no idea. I’m kind of oblivious in that way.” But when she saw the home, the film crew and the lights, she knew. “I recognized it right away.”

Carmeon Hamilton, the designer of HGTV Urban Oasis 2024, met Anna and Aubree in the driveway. Overjoyed at sharing the news, the Memphis-based champion of HGTV’s Design Star: Next Gen became choked up herself as she hugged the shocked and delighted winner.

The Surprises Multiply

Once inside, another surprise awaited Anna as her mother, father and sister emerged, and more tearful embraces were shared as the group toured the newly built home. Among many soon-to-be favorite features, Anna immediately noticed a thoughtful part of the decor. “They had a really cool art piece in the living room with fountains,” she said. “Kansas City is the City of Fountains. We’re second only to Rome.”

More local touches were soon to be discovered in the second floor music lounge. With trombones and guitars artfully displayed to represent the city’s legendary musical history, every detail was intentionally chosen. “The record on the record player had a Kansas City label,” Anna mused.

With her family and friends living nearby, the sun-drenched haven will surely serve as the hub of many happy gatherings. For now, everyone is still swept up in a swirl of emotions. “I’ve cried so much since; I just can’t believe it,” the winner said. “My dad is the biggest softie ever. He cried that whole day. My family is just so happy for us.”
