11 HGTV Star-Approved Small Towns to Visit Now

The hustle and bustle of big cities is certainly exciting, but HGTV fans and hosts alike love small towns the most. Bursting with local character, quaint shops, family-owned businesses and must-try restaurants, bars and coffee shops, one of these small towns might just be your next weekend getaway spot. Ahead: Some of the charming towns our HGTV stars call home. Happy traveling — you may even spy an HGTV celebrity or two while you're at it.

Located at the tip of Miami Beach, Bal Harbour, Florida, is a vibrant small town with quick access to life-of-the-party Miami. The equally colorful and animated David Bromstad, host of My Lottery Dream Home, once made his home in Bal Harbour. Traveling tips: Post beach (of course), stop in at David's favorite spots: He enjoyed eating at the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort and shopping at Bal Harbour Shops.

Bentonville, Arkansas, famous for being the birthplace of Walmart and the “Mountain Biking Capital of the World," is also the hometown of our very own Dave and Jenny Marrs, hosts of Fixer to Fabulous. Traveling tips: Check out Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and The Momentary (General admission is always free.) Plus, there's more than 130 public art displays around town. Foodies can stop by The Hive or Tusk & Trotter. And don't forget to stop by Dave and Jenny's own store, Marrs Mercantile.

On Renovation Aloha, Hawaiian natives Kamohai and Tristyn Kalama work to preserve island culture by renovating homes on the island of Oahu. Tristyn's hometown, Kailua, sits on the east coast of Oahu and is famous for its beautiful, powdery sand beach and natural wetland. Traveling tips: After spending a day exploring the area's natural beauty, hit up the shops. Olive & Oliver is owned by a husband-and-wife team and has fun, surfer vibes. Global Village is Kailua’s oldest boutique for finding original, local designs, fair trade gifts and sustainable apparel. Bikinibird is a local, woman-owned shop for grabbing all your beach essentials.

Rehab Addict host Nicole Curtis originally hails from Lake Orion, Michigan, a sweet little town with a six-block downtown area that’s full of walkable bars, restaurants and local boutiques. Need a weekend getaway in a super-quaint town? You found your next vacation spot. Traveling tips: Enjoy live music at 20 Front Street, a beloved independent venue; sit down for brunch at Johnny Black’s Lakehouse; and discover one-of-a-kind jewelry at Marcella.

Husband-and-wife team Ben and Erin Napier put Laurel, Mississippi, on the map with their show Home Town — though gorgeously renovated homes by the Napiers aren't all the town has to offer. Traveling tips: First stop is Ben and Erin’s original storefront, Laurel Mercantile, to shop for beautiful gifts and delightful homeware. Don't miss The Scent Library for candles, room sprays and soaps; Scotsman General Store, where you can get a glimpse of Ben’s famous woodshop; and Scotsman Snowball Stand and Food Truck Park for dinner and a sweet treat. Top off your visit with a walk through Mississippi’s first art museum, Lauren Rogers Museum of Art.

With the San Juan River running through its downtown and relaxing hot springs dotting the shore, Pagosa Springs, Colorado, is a true escape for outdoor enthusiasts and spa lovers. Lucky for Ben and Cristi Dozier, the husband-wife renovation duo from Building Roots, they get to call this quaint town their home. In addition to running their Root Design Company, they also manage Root House Coffee, which offers coffee, smoothies, cocktails and sweet and savory options. Traveling tips: After a coffee from Root house, a dip in the hot springs is essential. As well, don’t miss hiking to nearby waterfalls, fly fishing in the river or taking a ride on the scenic railroad. Skiers and snowboarders will want to stop by Wolf Creek Ski Area for some snowy fun. And after a day of adventures, dinner at Meander Riverside Eatery or Riff Raff Brewing Co. never misses.

Help! I Wrecked My House host Jasmine Roth splits her time between Huntington Beach, California, and Park City, Utah. Though thousands of visitors flock to Park City for its epic winter ski season, it still gives off charming, small-town vibes. Traveling Tips: In addition to amazing restaurants, such as Tupelo and Five5eeds, the town is full of hands-on, creative experiences. About 45 minutes north of Seattle, Snohomish is a charming and vibrant city with a walkable downtown area that’s informally known as the “Antique Capital of the Northwest.” With more than 500 dealers spread across little shops and antique malls, it's a vintage-decor lover's paradise. Designer Michel Smith Boyd brings high-end designs to Atlanta on his show, Luxe for Less, but he originally hails from a tiny town in Louisiana called Thibodaux. Traveling tips: Thibodaux’s historic downtown boasts trendy restaurants and bars, as well as local boutique shopping. Head to the town in November for the culinary showcase, Big Boy’s Main Street Cook-Off, to try true Cajun cuisine. Visit the neighboring Bayou L’Ours swamp to take in the local landscape.

Chelsea Houska DeBoer and her husband Cole DeBoer transform homes on Down Home Fab. They now live in Sioux Falls, but Chelsea — a true South Dakota native — grew up just an hour south in Vermillion. Home to the University of South Dakota, Vermillion is a college town full of history, art and local hangouts. Traveling tips: Discover part of the Lewis and Clark Expedition at Spirit Mound, or immerse yourself in the history of music at the National Music Museum.
