Add open storage to your yard or garden with wooden crates grouped and installed along a fence or exterior wall. You will need: a variety of rustic wooden crates in an odd number / 1 1/2" exterior wood screws (for metal or brick surface installations, metal or masonry screws may be required) / drill / camera / potted plants / exterior paint or sealer / paint brush

Step 1: Gather Crates

Gather a collection of sturdy crates varying in size, color, age and finish. Note: To ensure crates don’t decompose rapidly from the elements, seal them with paint or sealer. Tip: Odd numbers work best for creating proper visual impact.

Step 2: Create a Layout

Place the grouping of crates on the ground, repositioning them until the desired layout is created. Tip: A well-balanced layout includes a mix of heights, widths and depths.

Step 3: Take a Photo

Once the crates are in the desired formation, take a picture for reference. This is necessary for remembering the correct order and spacing once it’s time to begin installing the crates.
