Spook Up an Everyday Lampshade With a Spiderweb Silhouette

For many, spiders are the creepiest thing around. Add a little fright to the night with this easy-to-make spiderweb lampshade. The materials are readily available and inexpensive; check an office supply store for the whiteboard tape, a thrift store for the lampshade and a dollar store for the spiders.

Begin Web

Use thin whiteboard tape to make lines across the inside of the lampshade. Three or four lines that go from the top to the bottom of the shade will work best. They should all intersect at one point in the middle to form the frame of the web.

Continue Forming Web

Make small connections from one frame line to another with the whiteboard tape. Carefully use a craft knife to make any necessary cuts. Use your fingertip to guide the tape, making subtle curves.

Finish Web

Continue making lines around the web until you reach the desired pattern and size.

Add Spiders

Add spiders randomly around the web by applying a small piece of double-sided tape to the back of each spider, then pressing it in place (Image 1). Unilluminated, the lampshade looks decidely un-Halloween but turn on the light and, voila, instant fear factor (Image 2).
