How to Make a Cleaning Tool Holder
Hang large cleaning tools in your garage by building a holder made from scrap wood and pipe straps.

Materials Needed
- (2) 1x4s
- pipe straps in assorted sizes
- wood screws (1/2" in length for pipe straps)
- wood screws (for mounting)
- large cup hooks
- drill or electric screwdriver
- painter's tape
- stud finder
- paint or stain, if desired
- level
- measuring tape
Paint Wood
Paint wood in desired color. To make it easier, drape a drop cloth over a fence to create an easy spray painting station.

Mark Wall Studs
Mark the edges of each stud in your mounting area using a stud finder and painter's tape.

Create a Guide
Use a straightedge as a guide, and run painter's tape along the entire length of each board. This will make mounting your hangers easy and even.

Mount the Wood
Screw the wood to the garage wall using a level and the tape as a guide for the studs. If no studs are available, use sturdy wall anchors. Attach the first piece approximately 2' from the floor and the second 2' above the first piece. Keep in mind, you'll need to pull the full handles of your brooms out, so don't install them too high.

Determine Hanger Placement
Stand your cleaning tools in front of the mounted wood braces to determine placement before attaching your first strap. This will help you determine what size straps you need and how far apart to place them.

Attach Straps + Hooks
Use the straight edge of painter's tape as a guide, and screw in cup hooks and pipe straps in your desired locations. For the pipe straps, you'll need one on the top wood brace and one on the bottom to keep your brooms steady.

Test Placement
Test the placement of all your tools, and remove painter's tape if adjustments aren't needed.
