Colorful and Creative

This color-blocked studio with bay window offers an inspiring place to be creative, from journal writing and adult coloring books that help relieve stress, to taking online art courses for tips on how to paint the beautiful lush landscapes or rocky coastline of Maine.

Simple and Chic

On the design studio's hot-pink desk, a simple and chic desk lamp with handwoven rattan base and linen barrel shade has modern nautical style.

Rainbow-Inspired Shelves

The studio's ROYGBIV shelves represent the sequence of hues seen in a rainbow. The shelves offer display storage for art supplies, striped storage boxes, woven baskets, decorative accessories and potted plants. "I ditched the red for hot pink, so I've been calling it 'POYGBIV'," says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Happy Vibe

This happy and vibrant studio includes this lively hot-pink desk and playful citron-yellow chair that make coloring, drawing, reading or even paying bills seem much more fun.

Colorful Makeover

The studio's statement desk was originally an executive desk from the 1960s that was given a colorful makeover. The transformed desk with handy storage drawers was stripped and sprayed painted hot pink, a bright and happy color that also appears on the studio's custom-built shelves.

Have a Seat

The lightly padded, citron-yellow chair at the desk has an upholstered frame and gently contoured back and seat. The chair includes plastic glides on the feet that protect the studio’s painted pine floors. This modern farmhouse-inspired floor was sprayed with a thick white enamel boat-like finish, which creates a super shiny floor that bounces light everywhere.

Color Away Stress

The high-spirited desk offers the perfect spot for taking a break from all the stress of the outside world, with a coloring and activity book that sparks creativity and imagination.

Diverse Artwork

The artwork that decorates the walls of this colorful studio was purchased from a diverse range of artists on Etsy, and celebrates important causes like empowering women. "We wanted things to look playful and happy and encourage people to just celebrate diversity as much as we could," says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Colorful Closet

The inside walls of the studio closet were painted red-orange, to keep with the room's technicolor point of view. Rods inside offer hanging storage for a curated collection of well-made casual shirts in a variety of colors and patterns.

Zoned Comfort

A wall-mounted HVAC unit on the studio wall keeps the space at a comfortable temperature. “By placing mini-split pumps throughout the home, we increase the occupant’s comfort as each space can be controlled independently,” says build manager Dylan Eastman. “It is also an easier way to install this modern convenience in an old home where duct work may be impractical.”

Modern Lighting

The studio's eye-catching globe chandelier is constructed from solid brass parts, and includes white globe lights with colorful orange caps. The chandelier's square rods with arms set perpendicularly give the fixture a modern and geometric feel.

Vintage Stools

Vintage red, blue and green stools offer casual seating that can be easily moved around the studio, and also used as a spot for displaying favorite books or a bowl of fruit for snack time.

Creative Lobster Art

The oversized framed lobster with striped background on the studio wall was by Nashville artist Gina Julian. "She found clip art online of a lobster silhouette and then she had it made as a huge sticker," says designer Brian Patrick Flynn. "She added the sticker to the canvas and then she striped all around it. And then once the stripes were up and pristine, she pulled off the huge lobster sticker and it created the lobster silhouette."

Bold Hallway

With the white paneled door open, you see the hallway that connects the studio and bedrooms on this second floor of the home. The bold horizontal coral-and-white-striped wallpaper that gives the walls a major dose of personality offers a fresh and modern take on nautical blue and white stripes.

Joyful Space

This view into the studio from the hallway shows the bright and happy space inside, with bare windows that allow this color-blocked room to shine.
