Destination Dining

Custom draperies frame the large window that offers front yard views and brings natural light inside. A stain resistant green/black area rug under the table adds a touch of pattern and softness and helps define the dining area.

Dine in Style

The extendable solid wood dining table with two removable leaves features natural variation and purposeful distressing for extra character and warmth. Square-back dining chairs upholstered in vegan leather blend old-world charm with modern intrigue.

Creative Idea

Vintage finds act as vases for the small floral arrangements that decorate the top of the dining table. Smaller floral arrangements are easier to move around and allow guests to carry on conversations across the table.

Skirted Bench

A navy linen fabric was used for the custom skirt and cushion that dress up a bench to provide additional seating at the dining table. “We wanted something that went with the color palette, and added a little more sophistication,” says HGTV Urban Oasis 2023 designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Statement Lighting

A gold chandelier over the dining table with crisp, textured off-white linen shades distributes light throughout the dining room and creates a wonderful focal point over the table.

Great Flow

The dining room opens directly to the inviting living room, that sits just off the front entry on the first floor of this vibrant Southern-inspired retreat.

Practical and Stylish

A modern sideboard crafted from high-quality MDF and oak wood just off the dining room can be used to store books, set up a buffet or act as a dry bar for serving guests when entertaining.

Cocktail Time

A framed Kentucky bourbon print by artist Sam Sidney on the sideboard celebrates the barrel-aged American spirit loved by both locals and visitors alike.

Decorative Detail

A decorative detail was added to the iron staircase railing that leads up to the second floor. “Our architect Todd came up with the idea of just adding these two-by-two blocks, which creates that super Frank Lloyd pattern,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn. “It goes all the way around the house upstairs as well.”

Kentucky-Centric Art

A gallery wall lines the staircase, providing a chance to showcase more Kentucky-centric art. A black-and-white horse photograph on canvas, a grayscale baseball portrait and vintage photos of the Kentucky Derby are part of this curated collection.

Chic Cabinet

The modern sideboard cabinet has four doors that open to two adjustable shelves inside. An exterior shelf and the top of the unit create additional storage space for accessories and collectibles. A pair of white table lamps on the sideboard have a pierced, soft organic ceramic base with a sophisticated textured glaze.

Easy Entertaining

The open dining room enjoys a prime location just steps away from the home’s modern kitchen, with tons of storage, working island and access to the backyard.
