Cozy Space

An L-shaped modular sofa with a relaxed silhouette provides super-comfortable seating in this cozy living room with bay window, located just off the home's front entry. This casual and stylish space with color and texture was designed for easy entertaining, relaxing and watching TV.

Gorgeous Green

Designer Brian Patrick Flynn says the basil-green color used on the living room walls is a cross between gray, green and spearmint. This attractive hue works perfectly with the living room's painted utility-grade pine floor in different widths, which was sprayed with a thick white enamel boat-like finish for a shiny floor that bounces light everywhere.

Just Steps Away

The living room is also located just steps away from the coastal-style breakfast room with seagrass pendant off the kitchen. Like the living room, the breakfast room has a bay window that designer Brian Patrick Flynn used to bring natural light into the casual dining space with storage bench.

Unique Decor

Custom commissioned art and special finds from brick-and-mortar small businesses add texture to this well-detailed space with windows that offer views of the front porch and side yard.

Stay Warm

A hand-stitched black-and-white checkerboard Arcadian throw on the sofa offers an easy way to stay warm on chilly nights.

One-of-a-Kind Rug

A one-of-a-kind Oushak area rug pulls together a lot of the green and gray colors of the living room walls and sofa, while also adding softness under the seating area.

Kitchen Connection

This view from the living room's sofa shows the doorway that leads to the tone-on-tone dine-in kitchen, a space with bleached butcher block counters and a 22-foot sliding glass door that brings the beauty of this spectacular Portland, Maine location inside.

Stylish Shades

Sage-green Roman shades add a touch of pattern and softness over the living room windows. “We did not have the depth to do drapery in here,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Another Vintage Find

The round shape of the living room's vintage wood coffee table adds contrast for the sofa. The table’s round shape also makes it easier to move around this cozy space when entertaining.

Decorative Touch

The rustic top of the coffee table includes a selection of books, a vase with flowers for a pop of color and a decorative bowl that together add texture to this laid-back lounge space.

Advanced Features

From a tablet in the HGTV Urban Oasis 2020 living room, you can control the system that constantly monitors indoor air quality and temperature, to automatically control the skylights and shades to your comfort level. The home’s first-rate wireless security system can also be controlled by tablet.

Sink-In Comfort

The living room's sofa offers a great way to unwind, with a relaxed modern style with a low back and broad arms for sink-in comfort.

Laid-Back Lounging

This petite modular L-sectional sofa is made for laid-back lounging, covered in washed Belgian linen in a warm gray fog color that works perfectly with the basil green walls of this living room.

Pretty Pillows

Assorted throw pillows on the modular sofa pull colors like blush pink from the home’s custom commissioned art. The same artist used recycled and dyed textiles to create the wave pattern seen on one of the pretty pillows on the sofa.

Problem Solver

Instead of wasted dead space between the sofa and front of the bay window, pedestals in different heights were used to display potted plants. “When you walk in, it works almost as an indoor greenery for these indoor plants that need indirect sunlight,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Fab Floor Lamp

A large vintage medical lamp from a local brick-and-mortar store offers a twist on a traditional floor lamp, adding personality to this laid-back lounge space that enjoys an easy connection with the entire first floor of the home.

Big Statement Piece

A vintage pie safe under the living room's flat-panel TV adds a big statement piece that offers a creative way to store books. “They were made for when it was time to put out your pies when you’re selling them, like in the country in the summer, you can have them out for people to see them,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn. “They have a screen all the way around. You can see and smell the pie, but this screen made it so that the flies wouldn’t get to them.”

Easy Connection

This casually stylish living room enjoys an easy connection with the stairs to the second floor of the home, and the bold front entry with horizontal coral and white striped wallpaper on the walls.

Special Finds

A vintage ladder in the breakfast room right off the living room offers a spot to keep colorful throws handy for chilly nights. “A lot of the things you see inside the house are bought from brick-and-mortar small businesses,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Great Flow

Perfect for entertaining, this view of the living room from inside the European-inspired kitchen highlights the great flow and user-friendly layout for the first floor of this renovated home.

Distinctive Style

A cohesive color palette, farmhouse design details and special finds with local nautical flavor add character in the living room and the rest of HGTV Urban Oasis 2020, a charming Portland, Maine, home transformed into a bold maritime retreat.
