This attractive hue works perfectly with the living room's painted utility-grade pine floor in different widths, which was sprayed with a thick white enamel boat-like finish for a shiny floor that bounces light everywhere.

A vintage pie safe under the living room's flat-panel TV adds a big statement piece that offers a creative way to store books. “They were made for when it was time to put out your pies when you’re selling them, like in the country in the summer, you can have them out for people to see them,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn. “They have a screen all the way around. You can see and smell the pie, but this screen made it so that the flies wouldn’t get to them.”
