Appealing Upgrades

A front porch addition is one of the appealing upgrades of HGTV Urban Oasis 2020, a laid-back and homey two-story retreat with a dark gray board and batten exterior. This well-detailed urban home was designed to reflect the colors and natural beauty of this stunning location in Portland, Maine.

Lush Setting

With mature trees all around the property, HGTV Urban Oasis 2020 enjoys a lush setting in this appealing coastal region with super-active summers and snowy winter activities.

Rustic Warmth

Standard pine framing was used for the home’s front porch addition. The wood adds rustic warmth to this well-detailed home that was designed to celebrate the appealing lifestyle of New England’s largest state, with diverse landscapes, a rugged coastline and alluring lighthouses.

Terrific Turrets

This laid-back and homey retreat includes turrets in the living room and guest bedroom upstairs that allow a bay window in each space to frame great views and flood the rooms with natural light.

Easy Entry

A curved walkway with simple paver system connects the home's asphalt driveway to the front porch. A side entry to the home off the driveway, part of a new addition, offers easy access to a mudroom, laundry room and powder room inside.

Improved Function

The side entry upgrades the flow in and out of this modernized home. “The side entrance added true Maine function by the addition of the mudroom,” says build manager Dylan Eastman.

Sneak Peek

From the asphalt driveway, the expansive glass in the side entry gives visitors a preview of the lively design details used inside this bold colorful home with tons of personality.

Step This Way

The front porch addition with standard pine framing includes Western Red Cedar posts. “Stainless steel cable rail was used for the railing infill to give the porch a clean, modern look,” says build manager Dylan Eastman.

Attractive and Simple

The enhanced front yard includes a mix of native grasses, rhododendrons, flowers, boulders and arborvitae. “The goal for the front landscaping was an attractive but simple layout that speaks to its Maine location,” says build manager Dylan Eastman.

Safe and Secure

A yard sign lets everyone know this urban home includes a comprehensive security system that keeps the property safe and secure, with protection for every window, room and door.

Have a Seat

Vintage theater seats offer stylish front porch seating, for reading, enjoying the yard, or visiting with locals in the neighborhood.

Fun Fixture

This generously sized metal outdoor barn light with red finish on the front porch offers a fun take on a classic farmhouse fixture, with an attractive gooseneck arm style shade.

Eastern White Cedar Ceiling

The Eastern White Cedar front porch ceiling and floor offers the beauty and richness of wood, and nice contrast for this home's dark gray board and batten exterior.

Colorful and Cozy

A striped throw pillow and textured throw blanket on the vintage theater seats offer comfort and a touch of warmth on chilly days and nights.

Fabulous Front Door

Build manager Dylan Eastman found the modern architectural door with glass inserts that greets visitors when they arrive at the front door of this welcoming Portland, Maine home. "Instead of having it the yellowy brown color it was, we decided to make it very Portland and spray it coral," says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Lots of Seating

This second set of vintage theater seats add more seating to the front porch, with another cozy textured throw blanket and striped throw pillow that pick up the tones and shades of coral and red on the porch and in the entry inside.

Serious Security

Featuring sharp infrared night vision and two-way audio, this intelligent video doorbell is part of the home's wireless security system and alerts you when someone is at the door — even if they don’t ring the bell.

Bold Entry

With the front door open, visitors get a look at the home's bold entry with coral and white stripes on the walls. A switch from traditional nautical blue and white stripes, the colorful wallpaper transforms a space that designer Brian Patrick Flynn says previously was "dark and dingy and it felt like a basement."

Curb Appeal

The front porch addition, an attractive but simple landscaping layout and the home's rich dark-gray board-and-batten exterior helped transform this charming traditional home into a bold maritime retreat.
