The room's modern industrial features and neutral color palette are paired with soft, cozy touches, including a padded upholstered headboard. "We have a queen-size bed, but with this headboard, it almost appears larger," says Lindsay Pumpa. "It looks like you've got this big expansive bed going wall to wall."

A soft bamboo silk rug, custom designed by Boston's Medallion Gallery, anchors the space and offers a slight sheen. "The gallery owner drew out the entire motif you see on the rug and had it loomed in India," says Lindsay Pumpa.

For privacy, a pocket door separates the main bedroom from the living room. Pops of gold reference the dome of the Massachusetts State House.

A leather armchair, paired with a studded metal toss pillow, draws attention. "Chartreuse is making a huge comeback right now, so I pulled that in to give a splash of color in the corner of the bedroom," says Lindsay Pumpa.

Continuing a design focus on shiny, reflective surfaces, a mercury glass-clad end table displays a curio box topped with a snake handle lid.

A 50-inch flat-screen TV provides entertainment in a relaxed environment. A hand-knit chunky cotton tassel throw and super-soft acrylic throw double as wall art.

A cozy armchair provides a front-row seat to picturesque views of Boston and Cambridge, just beyond the Charles River.

Luxurious bedding befits this contemporary space. Chevron print pillows paired with a baby alpaca wool throw in a Greek key design continue a focus on bold graphic design.

Black-and-white photos by local photographer Matt Kalinowski provide a fresh, modern perspective on the city's most historic sites.

A fine-art photo of the bronze-cast George Washington statue located in Boston Public Garden serves as one of the room's most dramatic focal points.

The print elevates via remote-controlled roller shade to reveal a picture window into the urban-chic main bathroom. The bathroom was reconfigured and window added to enhance views and brighten the space.

A mirrored tray serves up tea with a twist. A high-fired white porcelain tea set from the design studio of Jonathan Adler offers just the right mix of old and new.

The striped wall treatment, inspired by the large white suspension posts of the Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge, draws the eye from the headboard across the ceiling and to the room's opposing wall.

A modern take on the traditional brass and crystal chandelier, the bedroom's mid-century modern light fixture, originally designed in 1958 by Gino Sarfatti, features 30 lights extending from a straight chrome arm.

One-of-a-kind dimmable light fixtures that flank the bed are formed from four tri-band louver wall sconces, the top two installed upside down to create a unique lighting statement. "At night they have a great glow because they are louvered. Light is emitted from all the different steps," says Lindsay Pumpa.

A pocket door opens to reveal a small hallway that houses a laundry closet, relocated from the powder room area, and the walk-in main closet. The hallway leads into the main bathroom, where a window, chiseled into the wall, provides city views from the shower stall.
