Rustic Contemporary Living Room with Full Length Windows

The traditional Florida room takes on a new face at HGTV Green Home 2012. The weatherized yet unconditioned space is designed to live like an interior room, with vaulted beamed ceilings and a stylish mix of contemporary and antique furnishings.

Fireplace With Brown Wicker Chairs

A direct-vent gas fireplace serves as the room's heat source. The surround and hearth, clad in slate tile, complement the room's selection of rustic and industrial home furnishings.

Architectural salvage becomes artwork in this gathering space. Spotlights shine on distressed shutters, purchased at Serenbe's consignment boutique Repurpose. "We want the room to feel contemporary but not cold," says interior designer Linda Woodrum. "They offer just enough texture to be interesting."

Contemporary Rustic Living Room with Fireplace

Antique wicker chairs, originally placed outdoors and repainted over the years, offer an inviting perch. Ottomans, custom-made for the space, provide additional seating or tabletop surface.

Weatherproof Georgia Room With Rustic Wood Coffee Table

Carpenter David Brown constructed the room's rustic coffee table from pieces of rough-sawn heart pine, reclaimed from an old fence.

Interior designer Linda Woodrum discovered galvanized chicken feeder covers at an interior design boutique in Hilton Head. One of her first purchases for HGTV Green Home 2012, the agricultural salvage becomes a conversation piece in this gathering space.

Designed by luxury furniture designer Richard Frinier, a contemporary patio sectional with aluminum frame features cushions covered in durable mildew-, fade- and stain-resistant Sunbrella fabric.

A plantation-grown mango wood pedestal table serves as a display column for Linda's favorite find from the Canton Street Antique Market: a table lamp fashioned from an old machine bit. "The red pillows and the red lamps make this room just buzz with energy," she says.

Sliding French doors lead to the home's front porch, where earth-friendly composite decking forms a solid surface and stands in contrast to the structure's steel cable railing.

The front porch and Georgia room are designed to offer flexibility: Sliding doors may remain open to enjoy street-level bustle or closed for privacy when watching TV or enjoying dinner.

Architect Steve Kemp is most pleased with the connection between the front porch, courtyard and kitchen. "They are so seamless, they are a flowing space," he says. "I could see enjoying a lot of meals, sitting out on that front porch and enjoying the people watching out on the street."

Living Area With Neutral Walls and Red Accents

A 59-inch flat-screen TV, mounted above the fireplace, provides entertainment throughout the year. Semi-sheer grommet drapes may be drawn for privacy.

The room's earthy wall color was inspired by interior spaces at The Farmhouse at Serenbe. "That gray-brown, dense color is a really nice frame for what's outside when it's really green," says Linda. "It has a nice way of connecting that inside/outside room to the outdoors."

A French door connects the Georgia room to the main living area and the staircase, which leads to the upper floor and guest spaces.
