Tiffany and Selena Celebrate a Bond That’s Unbreakable
Comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish knows firsthand how meaningful it is to have your friends show up when you need it most. Her friendship with Selena, her BFF of 20 years, is rare and steadfast. “You visited me when I was in foster care,” Tiffany reflected, “and even as an adult, you’ve pulled me through some of the toughest times.” It’s no surprise Tiffany was eager to give back in a big way. She recruited Property Brothers Drew and Jonathan Scott to transform Selena's dated house into a dream home. Together, they would give her a new living and dining area, kitchen and bathroom.

Delivering Comedy on Demo Day
Humorously donning a certain Property Brother’s signature attire, Tiffany let loose and helped demo the kitchen in her best friend’s house. She acknowledged the family had done some updates to the cabinets and backsplash, but the finishes themselves weren’t great. Tiffany vowed to help Drew and Jonathan throughout the entire four-week renovation process.
The Living Room, Before
The living room in the family’s home was uncharacteristically dark for their bright personalities. Tiffany expressed interest in making it more sophisticated. Her and the brothers planned to update the dated, 1970s stone fireplace; relocate the ceiling-mounted television to better serve the family and balance out the room; and replace the recessed lights in the ceiling that, even fully brightened, didn’t seem to offset the darkness felt in the space.
The Living Room, After
The newly designed living room screams elegance. The centered stone fireplace features an inset area for a framed television (one that very luxuriously displays art when not in use). White paint covers the previously blue walls to make the room brighter. Floor-to-ceiling curtains and lush green plants round out the design. Light furnishings, engineered hardwood floors and gold accessories also give the space a welcoming and modern ambiance.
The Living Area, Before
Selena and her husband, Dwayne, had already established an open concept floor plan in their home. Tiffany and the designers saw no need to add any dividing walls or make dramatic floor plan changes, but they did identify ways to make the open space more cohesive and functional.
The Living Area, After
Selena and Dwayne’s updated open concept living area is functional, bright and modern. The brothers reoriented the kitchen to make more room for cooking. An eat-in area on the peninsula accommodates seating for the family of four, while the dining room still offers a formal space for larger gatherings.
The Staircase, Before
Drew and Jonathan loved the original Art Deco railing in the house, but were quick to point out the flaws in its design. With spaces large enough for a child to fall through, they considered it a safety hazard. They planed to bring it up to code without diminishing its charm. Additionally, they opted to remove old carpeting to help the room feel more modern.
The Staircase, After
The iron railing was redesigned by a local craftsman and updated to fit building codes. The black iron contrasts nicely with the freshly painted white walls. The designers replaced the carpeting with the same engineered hardwood that runs throughout the updated space.
The Kitchen, Before
Tiffany knew Selena loved to try new recipes and entertain, but she also knew it wasn’t the kitchen of her dreams. With an eye to upgrading the finishes and improving its flow and functionality, Tiffany and the designers transformed this small kitchen into a luxurious, expansive space.
The Kitchen, After
The new, windowless kitchen maximizes space without sacrificing brightness. Soft gray transitional shaker cabinets, honed stone countertops, a gas range and a large peninsula take the space to the next level. Selena’s new kitchen is ready to accommodate anything from crafts with the kids to a big, home-cooked meal.
The Kitchen, After
A large peninsula with round, modern pendant lighting is the perfect area for entertaining friends and family. Black counter-height benches carry the iron finishes throughout the room. Four seats offer an eat-in dining opportunity for all family members. A combination of open and closed shelving provides storage and display opportunities in the new room. To the left of the kitchen, the designers installed large French doors with fixed side panes to let in more natural light. A new dining room table offers a formal area for the family to entertain and connect.
The Bathroom, Before
Though the full bathroom off the living area was a guest bath, Tiffany wanted to make it spa-like for Selena. Drew and Jonathan also planned to upgrade the ventilation, repair moisture damage and make better use of available space.
The Bathroom, Before
Tiffany knew Selena would appreciate using the bathroom space differently and campaigned hard for a double vanity. To make space for it, the designers would need to relocate the toilet. She also sought to update the bathroom tile to help the bathroom design coordinate with the adjacent living area.
The Bathroom, After
Selena’s new bathroom is an absolute oasis. To make the most of the floor plan, Drew and Jonathan reoriented the toilet. They also installed an elegant glass enclosure around the new walk-in shower and upgraded the ventilation. Tiffany even had a hand in laying the individual marble floor tiles in the bathroom.
The Bathroom, After
White walls and a modern double vanity sink make the space shine, while two modern mirrors with sconce lights illuminate all the pretty. White countertops, contrasting black fixtures and wooden accents create a sleek yet welcoming feel. Tiffany knew this space would be a relaxing spot for Selena after a long day but also joked it was a room that she looked forward to enjoying, too.
