Rachel Brosnahan's Marvelous 'Celebrity IOU' Makeover

The marvelous Rachel Brosnahan became a household name in her Emmy-winning role as the eponymous Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She’s since made the push to the big screen, with starring roles in The Amateur and this summer’s highly anticipated Superman (read on for a sneak peek of the movie!).

Since they met at New York University, Rachel and Carly have been family. That’s why Rachel cashed in her Celebrity IOU to give Carly and her parents, Robin and Ron, a brand-new kitchen and dining room in Carly's childhood home. "They've been some of my biggest champions and supporters," she said. "They've had a really, really difficult last couple of years … it feels like the perfect time to be able to spread a little extra love in the house like they do for everybody else."

“I don't know where to begin telling you about why I despise this kitchen,” said Carly. That's all Drew and Jonathan Scott needed to hear to start planning the perfect renovation.

Robin, Carly’s stepmom, is the family chef, but with little counter space, she struggles to cook while having access to her appliances. The closed-off layout leaves the heart of the house an echoey isolation chamber. On top of that, the surrounding cabinets are still babyproofed from when Carly's brother was a baby — he's in college now.

“Put a giant hammer in my hand and I'm a happy girl,” Rachel said, giddy that she got to take part in the cabinet and countertop demolition. If she were from Krypton, she wouldn’t even need a hammer.

Drew and Jonathan merged the kitchen and dining room with the much-needed removal of the partitioning wall. They installed chic and durable porcelain countertops, in addition to brand-new eco-friendly appliances.

Carly picked out the two-tone wooden cabinets herself. Drew and Jonathan sourced local Topanga tiles that they set above the stove to add a splash of color. By removing a window and the entrance to the den, new cabinet space efficiently houses what was once cluttering the countertop.

The previous placement of the wall let the dining room hog all the natural light — making whoever was in the kitchen feel, as Jonathan put it, “shunned from the action.”

Robin and Ron marveled at the new ash-wood table. “I can feel all the dinners we’re going to have there,” said Carly, “and all the memories sitting around that table.”

After knocking down the wall, Drew and Jonathan installed hardwood floors across the dining room and kitchen — letting in the light and strengthening the sense of unity between the two areas.
