Eclectic California Home Features Chic Blue & White Palette

With dark cabinets and woods walls, this home in San Clemente, Calif., lacked the color and personality that Wendy & Greg's clients wanted. Thus, the design duo introduced a rich palette of indigo and white via Mediterranean tiles, oriental rugs and bohemian accents. The finished design is both chic and eclectic.

Great Room With Wood Paneling Gets A Makeover

Travertine floors, cherry wood cabinets and wood paneled ceilings made this large, open space feel dark and cramped.

White Eclectic Great Room With Home Bar

White ceilings and walls brighten this open space to give it an airy feel. The bar area boasts a navy blue waterfall edge countertop that both anchors and defines that space. Light wood floors unify the separate living spaces.

Outdated Kitchen Before Major Transformation

Before, this L-shaped open kitchen had green granite countertops and cherry wood cabinets that didn't fit the home's light and airy feel.

White Transitional Kitchen With Marble Backsplash

Wide-Plank hardwood floors add warmth and character to this all-white kitchen. Marble tile backsplash complements the white Shaker cabinets with brushed nickel handles for a sophisticated, classic look.

Kitchen With Cherry Cabinets Gets Beautiful Makeover

Before, cherry wood cabinetry, travertine tile floors and wood paneled ceilings made this kitchen look dark and dated. Transom windows don't blend in, awkwardly crammed between the cabinets and ceiling.

White Eat-In Kitchen With Modern Wooden Barstools

Transom windows blend in seamlessly, almost disappearing completely, thanks to a monochromatic color palette that unifies every element in this space. The island defines the kitchen from the rest of the open living area. Wooden barstools give the kitchen an organic-modern look.

White Open Kitchen With Modern Wooden Bar Stools

Although the cabinets don't meet the ceiling, white walls and transom windows close the gap to prevent the kitchen from looking disjointed and blocky. A large kitchen island anchors the room, providing additional counter space, storage and an eat-in breakfast bar area. Modern wooden barstools bring in warmth and a natural element to offset all the white surfaces.

Bright Transitional Kitchen With White Cabinetry

White paint transforms wood paneled ceilings to dramatically brighten and lift this open kitchen. The lines and texture of the wood still shine through, however, for a coastal look. A Persian rug gives the space a warm, homey feel to counterbalance the crisp white cabinets.

Great Room With Wood Paneling Receives Major Transformation

Before, wood paneling and bulky, dark brown furniture made this great room feel dull and dark, not representative of the home's coastal location.

White And Blue Bohemian Coastal Living Room With Fireplace

Crisp white walls replace busy wood paneling for a refreshing, more modern look. Various types of seating, including a corner window seat, create an eclectic, cozy, comfy area for entertaining or relaxing with family. A ceiling-height wall niche houses stacked firewood, serving as both a practical and aesthetic element.

Neutral Coastal-Inspired Eclectic Living Room

Warm, sandy tones balance the stark white walls so the living room doesn't feel too cold. A single rustic wood beam serves as the mantel on the sleek, modern fireplace, creating a nice juxtaposition of rough and smooth.

White Eclectic Living Room With Modern Fireplace

Wooden accents add texture and warmth to this all-white living room to give it a beachy feel. Stacked firewood, stored in a floor-to-ceiling wall inset, contrasts with the smooth fireplace surround for a rustic modern look.

Neutral Eclectic Living Room With Linen Couch

Framed watercolor art evokes the movement of waves flowing in and out, even capturing the ocean's natural hues which inspired the color palette of this home. Sand-colored linen couches add to the coastal look of this living room.

Eclectic Living Room With Corner Window Seat

A cozy, built-in corner bench under the window makes better use of this space than a single chair, with its extra storage and long seat cushion to stretch out. The palm plant brings in a nice pop of green and nods to the room's beach style inspiration.

Neutral Eclectic Coastal Living Room With Glass Table Lamp

Layering textures, patterns and complementing colors give this living room a collected, lived-in feel. African necklaces hang around the neck of a glass table lamp as a unique way to display meaningful objects that also keep with the room's eclectic coastal style.

Great Room With Dark Wood Paneling Gets Makeover

Before, dark wood paneling dominated this family living room and a plush leather sectional took up too much space.

White Eclectic Great Room With Ladder Shelf

Matching batik armchairs are flea market finds that add a collected, bohemian look. Ladder shelves fill in a large blank wall with sculptural, thrifted finds that inject whimsy and personality into this space.

Eclectic Beach-Inspired Great Room With Teal Chaise

Just outside the kitchen, an elegant teal velvet chaise, gold side table and iron mirror make up a sophisticated sitting area. The jewel toned chair introduces an unexpected vintage element that contrasts nicely with modern features for a collected look.

Eclectic Sitting Area With Ladder Shelf

Repurposed ladders now serve as shelves to display meaningful objects, tchotkes and books to give this sitting area a personal, collected fell. An antique cane back chair, modern white side table and fiddle leaf fig tree create an inviting, eclectic corner sitting area.

Balinese Style Entry Before Renovation

Before, wood paneling and bamboo stair railing overpowered this entryway. To create a cleaner, more symmetrical entry, the bamboo handrail was removed, as was the tiered shelving.

White Eclectic Entry Stairs With Tile Step Risers

A blue Oriental rug brings warmth and a subdued pop of color to this all-white entry. Blue-and-white stamped tile step risers echo the rug's color palette and give the entry a coastal, Mediterranean look. Plants add color, texture and natural elements to enliven the space.

Entryway Stairs With Tiled Step Risers

Blue-and-white patterned tiles add interest and some Spanish-style flair to this entry. Metal stair railing brings a modern element to contrast with the warm woods and old-world tile.

Dark Wood Dining Room Before Makeover

The dark-stained wood ceiling and trim distracted from the beach view outside and made the room feel dark, despite all of the windows.

Blue And White Eclectic Dining Room With Tall Wingback Chairs

Transom windows and tiered coco bead chandeliers draw attention to the tall ceilings, visually adding height to this dining room. Blue tie dye curtains inject some playfulness into this formal dining area. Tall wingback chairs command attention instead of being dwarfed by the lofty ceiling.

Eclectic Blue And White Dining Room With Tiered Shade Chandeliers

Tufted, cream-colored dining chairs make for a classic, elegant pairing with the double pedestal dining table. Tiered shade chandeliers hang low over the table to make the dining space feel cozy and intimate.

Contemporary Coastal Dining Room Buffet Table

An enlarged photo of pool water makes up this diptych, serving as a unique piece of framed art which fits the contemporary coastal theme of this dining room. The espresso-stained wood buffet table creates a nice contrast with the bright white walls and complements the various hues of blue.

Eclectic Bright And Airy Dining Room

Chandeliers with tiered coco bead shades create a contemporary coastal look in this formal dining room. A nautical centerpiece and blue and white color palette reinforce the coastal design scheme inspired by the home's beachfront location.

Eclectic Blue And White Dining Room With Elegant Tablescape

Pillar candles and greenery create a lovely, natural tablescape on this slightly-distressed wood dining table. Ombre blue organic-shaped plates match the coastal, blue and white color palette.

Contemporary Tropical Dining Room Before Makeover

Before, this contemporary Balinese style dining room lacked color and interest. Wood paneled ceilings make the space feel short and dark, despite all the natural light.

Blue And White Eclectic Formal Dining Room

Marble-patterned wingback chairs at heads of the table bring drama and style to this dining room while also counterbalancing the pair of chandeliers. An eclectic mix of prints in complementing hues makes for a vibrant, cozy space. A large area rug defines the dining area.

White Great Room Stairs With Metal And Wood Railing

Bamboo stair railing was replaced with modern metal and wood railing for a fresh, streamlined look. Wood paneled ceilings now don a fresh coat of white paint to brighten the space by reflecting natural light.

Dark Bar Before Transformation

Green countertops and dark wood, L-shaped cabinets were uninspiring and dated.

Bright Spanish Style Bar

A stone accent wall defines the bar area and adds natural texture. Moroccan-inspired pendant lights hang at eye-level for a cozy, bohemian effect that visually lowers the ceiling height. Blue-and-white Spanish style tile sets the tone for the rest of the house and the cool-hued bar.

Bright Transitional Bar With Quartz Waterfall Countertop

Moroccan details mix with transitional elements, creating a modern-Mediterranean style bar that's bright and airy. A navy blue quartz countertop anchors the all-white space. Glass pedant lights and a stone accent wall help define the space from the living room.

Modern Mediterranean Style Bar

Chunky pieces of stone in the navy blue quartz countertop gives the look of an agate countertop. Blue-and-white hand-stamped tile adds Spanish-style flair to the bar.

Beautiful Spanish Style Tiled Bar Detail

Wooden barstools boast curved, hand-carved details reminiscent of traditional Moroccan furniture adding a modern Mediterranean touch to this bar. Hand-stamped tiles introduce a Spanish style element that keeps with Mediterranean-inspired theme.

Modern Mediterranean Bar With Stone Accent Wall

The navy blue waterfall edge countertop frames the beautiful blue-and-white hand-stamped tile on the bar. Wooden barstools with nailhead details have a modern Moroccan look that enhances the Mediterranean-inspired style of this bar area. A stone accent wall adds texture and interest to break-up the all-white walls and ceilings.

Awkward Powder Room Layout Before Makeover

Before, this powder room wasn't maximizing the space and lacked character. Mismatched styles made for a bulky, awkward design.

Eclectic Powder Room With Contemporary Southwestern Wallpaper

Textured wallpaper with a bohemian navy print gives this powder room a contemporary Southwestern look. Simple fixtures keep the focus on the bold wallpaper, so as not to overwhelm the small space. The solid wood vanity serves as a fixed focal point to anchor the room.

Southwestern Decor In Eclectic Powder Room

Textured, Southwestern-printed wallpaper provides an appropriate backdrop for decorative, wall-mounted cattle skulls in this eclectic powder room.

Modern Coastal Foyer With Wooden Entry Table

A ruffled-edge mirror reminiscent of sea coral and clamshells gives this foyer a modern beachy look. The dark-stained wood entry table adds rough but refined texture with a vignette that sets the tone for the rest of the house.

Modern Coastal Foyer Sitting Area With White Bench

Treated and stained driftwood stands on display as a sculptural piece of art that adds an organic textural element to this coastal modern foyer. A refurbished antique bench gets a bohemian update with indigo tie dye pillows. The photo of rippled sand calls to mind again the coastal inspiration for this space.

Eclectic Sitting Area With Antique Distressed Cabinet

A green, distressed antique cabinet adds character, texture and color to this all-white sitting area. A fern and snake plant make the space feel homey and inviting and bring in a natural element for an eclectic vibe.

White Eclectic Sitting Area With Rattan String Chairs

A large piece of abstract watercolor art is reminiscent of the sea, with its swirling blue strokes and soft lines. The orange bohemian pillow injects a bright pop of color to balance the cool tones and enhances the eclectic, collected style of this space.

White Bohemian Sitting Room With Rattan Chairs

Rattan chairs with gathered string warm up this sitting area, bringing in natural texture and earthy tones. The neutral colors create a relaxing spot to unwind and watch the sun set through the large windows.
