The rift-cut oak wood cabinetry was resourced from a LEED Certified manufacturer that utilizes responsible forestry and manufacturing processes. Handmade, glazed ceramic tiles weave through open shelving for ready access to continually used items. A bank of tall pantries balance the room without taking up much square footage. Throughout the kitchen and the adjacent living space, wide-plank, white oak flooring creates a clean base that is easy to maintain and is friendly to the back, legs and feet while cooking.

This project provided an opportunity to bring some authentic Craftsman ideals to this graciously aging bungalow home in a fresh and innovative way. The owners care deeply about using appropriate details and materials that would be originally appropriate to their home. They also made it a priority to source materials manufactured in an environmentally friendly and health-conscious manner, and to employ the talents of local craftsmen wherever possible.

Even the refrigerator is disguised to look like the cabinetry. To the left, tall pantry cabinets store everything you need for cooking. The designer says, “Shallow pantry cabinets are one of my favorite kitchen design tricks - they hold a tremendous amount of items within easy view."
