Brighten a Wall
Designer Paola Roder in Atlanta, Georgia, wanted to pump up the color in her guest room. Enter hand-drawn vinyl dot decals from Kenna Sato Designs, arranged randomly. A playful pairing: the pom-pom blanket (from Target) on the bed.
Redesign a Dresser
The blue decals used here come in a long roll with paper backing. Cut strips slightly taller than the drawer fronts and remove the drawers and knobs. Starting with the top drawer, adhere the decals on an angle. (You can use an extra strip as a spacer between stripes.) Fold the excess over the drawer edges, and trim. For the next drawer, do the same, but angle the stripes in the opposite direction. Repeat for each drawer; replace the drawers and knobs.
What we used:
- Dresser: Prepac Milo 26- 1/2"W x 16"D x 41"H manufactured wood chest in white from Overstock
- Decals: EasyStripe peel-and-stick striping decal in ocean from Walls Need Love
Customize a Cosmetics Bag
Open the bag and slip it over the narrow end of an ironing board to separate the front of the bag from the back. Apply the decal (it comes in one piece) to the front of the bag, following the package instructions.
What we used:
- Bag: Sonia Kashuk Square Clutch PVC makeup bag from Target
- Decal: Kiss & Makeup decal from Etsy: BrickroomDesigns
Transform a Chair
These decals are precut into shapes and come on sheets organized by color. Place them all over the chair to create a terrazzo pattern. Some kinds of decals are repositionable — these are — so if you don’t like a piece’s placement, simply peel it off and re-stick it.
What we used:
- Chair: Zipcode Design Downridge wood chair in white from Wayfair
- Decals: Terrazzo reusable wall decals in color combo 1 from Kenna Sato Designs
Perk up Coasters
Apply decals to old coasters or wood rounds. No need to seal them — the vinyl repels liquid.
What we used:
- Wood Rounds: 1/4"H x 4"-diameter unfinished wood circles from Action Craft Works
- Decals: Travel decal stickers from Vintage Road Trip Collection
Decorate Canisters
Spray-paint each canister, including the lid, a different color. (These are vintage.) Let dry overnight. Attach half-circle decals in varying patterns, as shown.
What we used:
- Decals: Midcentury Modern Semi Circle 4"-wide reusable decals from Etsy: WallDressedUp
- Paint: Shrimp and Easter Yellow, both by Montana Gold and Glory Blue by MTN Colors
Personalize Glassware
Wash and dry the glasses. Apply decals to the outside of the glasses, following the package instructions.
What we used:
- Glasses: Chroma 16-ounce glasses in sky from Hawkins New York
- Decals: Drinks on the House 2 -1/2"-tall decals in turquoise from Etsy: LaVieEnRosesDesigns
Make a Clock
Order an unfinished wood clock kit. Apply the decal (this one comes in one piece) to the wood face. Poke a hole through its center, then attach the clock hands.

- Clock: Hand Made Modern 9"-diameter unfinished wood clock from Target
- Decal: Multicolored Target Circle 9"-diameter reusable decal from Decal Venue
Refresh a Room
Paying tribute to the tropical vibes of New Orleans, where this bedroom is located, designer Erin Wheeler put up palm frond decals by Urbanwalls. To get a handle on their direction and spacing, she taped up a few before committing.
