Tour the Pastel Pink Kitchen of Your Dreams

When Derek and Lauren Wiggins and their two kids moved into this 2,000-square-foot Brooklyn, New York, apartment in 2019, they were thrilled with the space upgrade. Still, Lauren felt a little bummed about leaving the quiet serenity of their previous neighborhood for a louder, busier location. “I decided to make our place an oasis of calm,” says Lauren. She started with the room she liked least but used most: The all-white galley kitchen was a cramped, uninspiring space for cooking up her family-famous ramen, matzo ball soup and fried chicken. The Wiggins had a wall knocked down, nixing a tiny mudroom. The idea of pinking out the spot came to Lauren as she explored cabinet colors. “My parents and my contractor were skeptical,” she says, “but I wanted to reclaim pink — it’s not just girly and feminine! We all feel so happy and peaceful here.”

Open Shelves

Lauren opted for long oak shelves instead of upper cabinets — visually, they open up the narrow-ish space.

Hood

When your kitchen is this hip, you want elements with the same vibe — that’s why Lauren chose a stainless steel and curved glass range hood by Broan.

Floors

To balance out the pink cabinets, “we needed a clean, current look with a little edge,” says Lauren. A graphic diamond pattern, done with porcelain tiles from Galactic Tiles, checked all the boxes.

Table + Chairs

A ceramic-top table from Calligaris looks simply chic — plus it’s scratch-resistant, making it a good spot for at-home manicures and art projects. Upholstered teal chairs from Apt2B tie in to the mural, and see-through ones from CB2 help the space feel light and airy. The rug is from Annie Selke’s Dash & Albert.

“I was going for a modern garden feeling here,” says Lauren. Larger-than-life pink blooms made it happen. The 10-foot-wide mural is by Flavor Paper.
