Check Out This Atlanta Designer's Airy and Modern Lounge Space

White-paneled walls, a 15-foot steel and glass window and a corner fireplace covered in cement create an understated, relaxing spot to sit and take a load off.

Brian went for a less-is-more approach when creating this calm space to relax. Rather than heavily accessorizing the room, he relied on interesting building materials and comfy low-slung loungers. He incorporated touches of color with fresh florals.

This is the most used spot in the house, so Brian had to make it perfect. To give the lounge an open and airy feel, Brian used bare white paneled walls that really show off the ceiling height. A technicolor floor-to-ceiling art gallery installation in the adjacent entryway adds pops of color.

To keep the decor timeless, Brian used all organic materials for the room's design. The low slung sofas are upholstered in tweed, the accent tables are Carrara marble and the oversized carpet is wool.

The floor space directly in front of the corner fireplace is where Brian likes to enjoy the mild Atlanta winters. The white painted floor just in front of the fireplace is an excellent spot to add throw pillows, sit back and listen to the fire crackle.

After two years of searching, Brian finally found the perfect rug for the space. His friend Joanna Gaines designed this woven wool rug with Scandinavian style. Since the Nordic countries are Brian's biggest source of inspiration, he chose this rug in a neutral greige tone.

To minimize the presence of the corner fireplace, something that many designers find limiting in regard to a space plan, Brian had his skimmed with cement so it will almost disappear into the walls and create an understated look. Brian also used the fireplace to pull together all of the whites and grays seen in the space. The cement mixture includes a variation of those two colors.

Brian's most expensive home investment is a 15-foot tall industrial steel and glass front window. It was totally worth it though, because the stunning window brings bright light into the previously dark and dated foyer.

The main source of entertainment in the lounge is a 1960s style record player with a mod look. Bonus: its legs, which transform it into an actual table.

As an avid world traveler, Brian incorporates photography — from the more remote places he visits — into his designs. Here, an 8-foot-tall photo of an iceberg in Antarctica adds splashes of blue to the otherwise all-white, neutral space.
