Beautiful Filing Cabinet Makeover
Turn an old filing cabinet into a stylish statement piece for your home office.

- metal filing cabinet
- two 8 x 10 picture frames
- chalk paint
- clear wax
- foam paint rollers
- soft-bristled brush for wax
- epoxy
- rubber gloves
- two drawer pulls
- drill (optional if needed to attach drawer pulls)

Before
An ugly black filing cabinet lacked style and originality. With a few updates, this cabinet has a lot of potential.

Remove Drawer Pulls
Begin by removing the old drawer pulls from the filing cabinet.

Clean
Give the cabinet a good wipe to remove dust and lint.

Tape Drawers + Lock
Wrap painters tape around the inside of the drawers and the lock to prevent any paint drips.

Place on Wood Base
Rest the filing cabinet on a spare piece of wood to get the cabinet ready to paint.

Paint the Cabinet
Select a chalk paint color of your choice and paint one coat. Allow to dry before applying a second coat.

Take Apart Frames + Paint
Disassemble two 8 x 10 frames. These will add a decorative touch to the front of the cabinet. Using the same shade of chalk paint, apply a coat or two and allow to dry.

Drill Holes
Drill two holes on the top and bottom half of the cabinet to attach the drawer handles, if needed.

Attach Handles + Frames
Add two stylish drawer handles to the front of the cabinet (image 1). Next, secure the frames around the handles on the top half and lower half of the cabinet with epoxy (image 2 and 3).

Add Wax
Finish with a coat of clear wax using a soft-bristled brush.
