Bold Entry

From the home’s front porch, a glimpse inside offers a look at bold entry with coral and white striped wallpaper, which offers a modern twist on nautical blue and white. “The entryway had absolutely nothing memorable about it whatsoever before,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn. “It was dark and dingy, and it felt like a basement.”

Optimistic Art

This white framed watercolor of planet Earth by artist Karen Musgraves adds a happy and optimistic vibe to this friendly front entry. “Usually a watercolor would not be done that big, so it was an interesting take on something that’s kind of relevant right now,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Peace of Mind Protection

A touch-to-wake wireless keypad for the home's wireless security system sits by the front door. The advanced keypad works with the home's Base Station and well-placed sensors to provide whole home protection for peace of mind.

Coastal-Inspired Details

Build manager Dylan Eastman found the modern architectural front door with glass that connects the entry to the porch outside. The door was sprayed coral, a color inspired by the life preservers seen on the docks in the waterfront of Portland, Maine.

Play With Color

To play with color and bring the vibrancy of the front entry upstairs, designer Brian Patrick Flynn used the same coral and white striped wallpaper up the stairwell to the second floor, where the bedrooms and studio are located.

Stylish Stairs

A new banister was added for the stairs leading to the second floor. Designer Brian Patrick Flynn had the banister sprayed white to coordinate with the coral and white striped walls that make a big statement in this vibrant space. The risers of the stairs were painted ombre style, in different shades of coral, red-orange and salmon.

Cute and Compact

A flush mount nickel and white light fixture is compact in size, but offers a stylish way to illuminate this front entry that offers a preview of the strong use of color in this bold maritime retreat.

Vintage Vibe

A vintage wood table and cane chair add character and touch of warmth to the boldly striped front entry. A loose weave basket under the table offers easy storage for grab-and-go items as guests enter and leave the home.

Stay Safe

The vintage table provides a spot for the Base Station that acts as the control center for the home's top-notch wireless security system. The tabletop also includes a collection of books, a white vase with easy-care faux floral, and a nautical-style table lamp with linen barrel shade.

Decorative Details

A vintage ladder found at a local brick-and-mortar store in the breakfast room keeps cozy throw blankets handy. The home’s utility-grade pine floors with different widths were sprayed with a thick white enamel boat-like finish that helps bounce light everywhere.

Easy Access

The front entry enjoys convenient access to the breakfast room, kitchen and living room in this laid-back and homey retreat. With a mix of farmhouse design and seafaring accessories, this home celebrates the natural beauty of the region and all the different outdoor activities that can be enjoyed as the seasons change.
