The four-poster bed, which carpenter David Brown crafted from old doors purchased at Habitat for Humanity, is set on wheels for ease of cleaning. Complete with an eco-friendly mattress from the HGTV Green Home Collection, green bedding and a sheer bed canopy, the furnishing adds drama. “It’s soaring and crazy,” says interior designer Linda Woodrum.

The Master Bedroom features its own wall-mounted Viera 50-inch HD LCD Energy Star-rated television. A parson’s table receives an eco update with a covering of raffia.

Ambiance without the fire hazard, vanilla-scented flameless candles are battery-powered and feature 3 LED lights that produce a realistic flicker.

Steps from the Master Bedroom, the custom-built, walk-in Master Closet is ideal for storage of bath and bed linens, as well as a couple’s wardrobe.

Vintage door hardware in an oil-rubbed bronze finish gives the space a sense of permanence and pops against clean white doors.

A cozy reading nook incorporates a traditional wing chair upholstered in a festive daisy print and an architectural-style, polished-nickel coffee table, topped with a paper-mache lamp.

Giclee prints from Bridgewater, Mass., artist Jim Stafford add impact. “The originals are photographs of old sidewalks from the area and I always love the idea of elevating an everyday item or object into art by the way it is presented,” says interior designer Linda Woodrum.

A detour from the home’s edgy, linear design theme, interior designer Linda Woodrum allowed herself one indulgence: “The upholstery fabric represents the only flowers in the house. It was fun to girl it up.”

A paper-mache lamp with silk shade, crafted by Haitian artists, tells a green story: Contents are recycled and the lamp is hand-painted with low-VOC paint.

Luxurious and earth-friendly, the four-poster bed is dressed in a collection of mod pillows, including cotton shag throws fashioned from garment industry remnants and 250-thread-count organic cotton sateen sheets, block-printed by hand.

An eye-popping duvet folded at the bed’s edge is within easy reach should an evening turn chilly.

A nautical-style bulkhead light, centered over the bed head, stands in as a reading light. The quiet style keeps all eyes focused on the dramatic furnishing.

Recycled tin drum pendants, handmade and hand-painted by artisans in Mexico, replace conventional reading lamps. “This room is a little more whimsical than the rest of the house,” says interior designer Linda Woodrum when discussing the lighting choice.

The pendants’ recycled mouth-blown glass finials add a hint of sparkle and serve as a foil for more traditional room features.

A full-length floor mirror reflects sunlight in the bedroom. The antique-style, glass-tile design is reminiscent of vintage mosaic.

Shaggy carpet in a patriotic blue hue softens every footstep. The bound carpeting includes 25 percent post-consumer recycled content.

The only space in the home to feature drapery, the Master Bedroom boasts its own small storage closet.

A second purely decorative door balances the closet to the left of the bed. The door to nowhere opens to reveal a dressing mirror.
