Interior designer Linda Woodrum describes the loft space as her "blue sky room" — and for good reason. The selection of intense blue upholstery fabrics is directly related to views from the great room's dramatic wall of glass.

Solid rough-sawn, kiln-dried 12"x12" Southern yellow pine forms the custom-crafted scissor truss system. The loft railing system, capped with sustainable mahogany, hovers balcony-like over the great room.

Gleaming bamboo flooring segues to a durable sisal-style basket-weave area rug designed for high-traffic areas. Against a sea of blue fabrics, raspberry red Moroccan-style accent tables provide a pop of contrast.

The loft turns home cinema with the addition of a paneled media cabinet. The upper unit houses a 51-inch flat-screen TV. The base provides storage space for electronics equipment.

"The scissor trusses in the double vaulted great room add a dramatic detail without interfering with the marsh views from the second floor loft," says HGTV Dream Home 2013 general contractor Craig Gentilin. "The heft of these beams adds to the solid feel of the construction and overall design of the home."

The selection of intense shades of blue — both in fabric and wall color — is, in part, interior designer Linda Woodrum' s nod to island decor and interiors.

End tables, paired, provide a makeshift coffee table and display top for votives and hardback books, their covers providing an additional layer of color.

Beach-house-style chairs, crafted in a tightly woven seagrass, invite relaxation. The vibrant print of throw pillows recalls exotic beach locales.

Artwork by Low Country native Cassandra Gillens speaks to location. Placed in whitewashed frames crafted by carpenter David Brown, they pull in the room's color palette. "I think the boldness of the style of painting echoes what's happening in the room," says interior designer Linda Woodrum.

The room's queen sleeper sofa is upholstered in a heavy-wear Sunbrella fabric, ideal for this family-friendly gathering space.
