Tour David Bromstad's Whimsical Dream House in Florida

For nearly 20 years, David Bromstad has been bringing joy to viewers through his shows Color Splash and My Lottery Dream Home. Lately, though, he has been focused on finding his own happiness, and his just-finished home renovation is a metaphor for that journey: "When it was down to the studs, so was I," he says. Now the Winter Park, Florida, home is an embodiment of David: Every room is as whimsical, fun and spirited as the star himself.

David is an artist at heart — he worked as one for Disney before winning HGTV’s Design Star in 2006 — and he crafted many of the details on his own. "It’s a love letter to myself," he says. Read on to take the tour.

This 4,000-square-foot home's makeover started with a tickled pink upgrade. While David preserved the traditional Tudor details, he added his own twist with a section of colorful stucco. "It’s a classic stucco color that you see sprinkled in the Italian countryside," he says of the sunbathed pink facade. "It’s almost the exact color of an eraser."

David calls this the theater room, and it’s all about drama. Asymmetrical built-in shelves display his collection of colorful glassware (this isn’t even all of it), and he installed a projector for watching movies and TV. "It’s my favorite spot," he says. The best part: On the multicolor velvet Maker&Son sectional, you can put your feet up almost anywhere you sit. The large wool rug is from CB2.

"I wanted the cabinets to look like they were covered in fondant," says David. He carved and plastered over the classic Shaker-style doors, then coated them in "layers and layers of limewash." For color, he picked an assortment of blown-glass pendants by Helle Mardahl, in bubblegum hues, along with a red Sinkology sink and pink and red counter stools from Blu Dot.

David fell in love with all the old stone buildings in Norway on his 50th-birthday trip, and he wanted to get the same look here. He covered the walls with limestone and then overgrouted to get the effect. He juxtaposed the old-world feel with modern, sculptural pendants from Vakkerlight, pink chairs from Tov and red end chairs from Mohd, along with macramé hangings by Ancestral.

"My bedroom is like a fantasy," says David. The flowing and free-form decor feels out of a dream, with a cloudlike pendant from Molo and sheepskin rugs layered over a high-pile Moroccan rug from Etsy. He filled the quirky built-in shelves with more of his glassware and stacks of books. The spiral macramé art is a David original.

"To start and end my day in the ultimate joyful space was really important to me," says David of his pink-on-pink main bathroom. He covered the walls and floor with glazed porcelain tiles from Emser and painted the clawfoot tub from Kohler (Pink Mimosa by Behr). The Karran sinks and Jaclo faucets are red, to match the red tile grout; the sconces are from Dutton Brown.

David wanted his pool area to feel like a resort, with cozy cabanas and yards of colorful macramé.
