This Online Marketplace Is a One-Stop-Shop for All Our Favorite Sustainable Brands
Grove Collaborative makes it easy to find high-quality, sustainable products.
As we learn more and more about the impact certain ingredients and materials have on both the environment and our health, many people are turning to alternative products they can feel good about using. Enter: Grove Collaborative.
Grove Collaborative is an online shopping destination that offers over 3,000+ personally vetted, standout products in categories like home care, personal care, beauty, cookware, pet, baby and more. Meaning, every single product available on the Grove Collaborative site is certified cruelty-free.
“Grove aims to transform the products you use every day into a force for environmental and human health," says Ryan Zimmerman, Director of Communications and Partnerships at Grove Collaborative. "We have curated and vetted every product from over 350 brands on our site based on ingredients and materials that aren’t harmful to your health and have as limited an impact as possible on the environment.”
And better yet, these high-quality brands carried by Grove Collaborative are plenty that we’ve loved and recommended before, including some hidden gems Ryan introduced us to that we rounded up below:
Grove Co. Cleaning & Laundry Products
Grove Collaborative's in-house brand is already a favorite of ours (their concentrated cleaner won a spot in our 2024 Clean Home Awards) for its effective, plant-derived ingredients. But their new scent, Cactus Water and Aloe, is also a favorite of Zimmerman's. It has hints of lemon zest and prickly pear, and can be used on all sorts of surfaces. Plus, the aluminum bottle is an easy way to cut down on plastic use.
"Giant jugs of liquid laundry detergent and pods are wasteful," Zimmerman says. "Opt for water-free or concentrated formulas or new formats - like laundry detergent sheets - to cut down on packaging and carbon (from transporting water)." The brand's lightly scented lavender blossom and thyme sheets are pre-measured and tough on stains. And with plant-derived ingredients and a lightweight recyclable paper carton, you'll feel good about using it.
We've included Dirty Labs in our best eco-friendly detergent round-up, but they also have an innovative, sustainable alternative for the dishwasher, too. This cruelty-free powder detergent leaves dirty dishes sparkling clean without the need for pre-washing. It comes in an unscented option and one with a lovely geranium and lemon balm aroma.
We already love Mrs. Meyers, and we especially love the unique seasonal scents that come out (and are notoriously hard to find in stores!) The cruelty-free, gentle and natural line is currently available in a freshly cut grass scent; so snag ths set with a hand soap, cleaner, dish soap and a few reusable microfiber towels. It'll make your whole home feel like spring, and the microfiber towels are a fantastic sustainable replacement for single-use paper towels.
This candle from P.F. Candle Co. is made from 100% soy wax, is handmade in California and comes in a glass jar. And this coastal scent is a Grove Collaborative exclusive, too: it's reminiscent of a day at the beach, with notes of seaside mandarin, salted bergamot, coastal neroli and citrus musk.
Grove Co. Kitchen Products
We've called this brilliant find "the last food storage bags you'll ever need to buy" and we mean it; you can replace all of your zip-top plastic bags with Stasher bags (they're made with Platinum Food-Grade Silicone) and reuse them for years to come. They come in all sorts of sizes, but this classic sandwich bag size is great for your kid's lunch bag. And you don't need to just use them for food; they're great for travel, too.
We've also written about Caraway pans before, and we love how nonstick they are and how evenly they heat up. Plus, they're gorgeous. Zimmerman's also a "devotee" to this "beautiful and easy to clean" set of pans. They're coated with ceramic, meaning they're free of lead, cadmium and other toxic materials. That means you need less oil to cook with and they can be wiped down with minimal scrubbing. They also come in beautiful colorways, like this terracotta-like pink.
This GreenPan ceramic fry pan is safe to use with metal utensils, thanks to the Thermolon ceramic nonstick coating that's also free of toxic chemicals. Additionally, it creates 60% less CO2 than other similar pans during its production. And it's great for everything from pancakes to eggs to vegetables to fish.
This set of two olive oils each have a purpose; the "sizzle" option is made for high-heat cooking like pan-frying, and the "drizzle" option is perfect for salads and finishing touches on dishes. You can also buy convenient aluminum can refills so you don't have to use a new squeeze bottle every time. And that squeeze bottle makes cooking so easy, too.
"There is so much waste when it comes to food storage," Zimmerman says. And a great example of an innovative product on Grove that reduces that waste is this reusable stretch wrap from W&P. According to Zimmerman, it's "the best silicone alternative to saran wrap that can be used over and over again." This one comes in a pack of three in various sizes; one small enough for half an onion or avocado, another large enough for a plate. And they're even microwave-safe.
Zimmerman loves this brand "for swapping single use products for adorably designed reusable textiles (think tote bags, dish towels, sponge cloths - super giftable, too!)." You can't deny how fun these would be in a housewarming gift basket, and you can feel good about gifting this set of two towels: Made from 100% unbleached cotton, they're designed, printed and hand-packaged in the USA.
We ranked the Hydro Flask wide mouth travel bottle as our favorite stainless steel bottle this year, so we had to show you its fancier cousin; this one has a flex straw for easier sipping. It'll stay cool for 24 hours and fits perfectly in a cupholder. Plus, the brand itself is committed to sustainability by recently eliminating most of its plastic packaging.
Made with 100% food-grade silicone, these convenient packets will replace those pricy food pouches your little one loves: you can fill them with smoothies, applesauce, yogurt drinks and more. This pack of four is BPA-free as well, and they're easy to use and clean.
Zimmerman loves this new addition to Grove Collaborative, saying it's "my current daily morning cup of coffee, made from beans that help protect 234 bird species in Guatemala." That's because this coffee carries something called the Smithsonian Institute's Bird Friendly® certification. It's a method that creates habitat sanctuaries for migratory birds while also maintaining the region's biodiversity; and they've raised over $298k for these efforts. The beans themselves have a flavor profile that include cherries, molasses and cacao nibs.
Zimmerman says these blueberry and mint sticks are his go-to "natural teeth cleaning treats that I have on hand for my four-legged neighbors." They're grain-free and help clean teeth and freshen breath. They're also made in the USA using solar energy and upcycled blueberries and sunflower seeds.
Grove Co. Outdoors Products
This is the best gift for any of the gardeners in your life (including yourself!). The durable, weatherproof repotting mat keeps your space free from dirt and mess, making the process of repotting plants and flowers a lot simpler. It's also easy to rinse off, and is great for additional gardening tasks like pruning. As a bonus, you even get some organic soil and root food with purchase.
We've raved about Murphy's natural products before because their incense cones were already on our list of best mosquito repellants. But this is a beautiful, more sustainable option: it's a refillable candle that repels mosquitoes with essential oils. The candle itself is made from a soy and beeswax blend infused with citronella, lemongrass, peppermint, rosemary and more. And it comes in an aesthetically pleasing ceramic cup that you can refill for years to come. When the candle is done, find the refills here.
This 100% plastic-free way to reapply sunscreen is great for long days outside: just keep it in your pocket or beach bag to reapply it around sun sensitive areas like the nose, ears, face and more. There are only five ingredients including non-nano particle zinc oxide, organic coconut oil and beeswax. It's SPF 50 and blocks both UVA and UVB rays.
How does Grove Co. choose the products featured on the site?
First, brands that want to be on the site take a survey that lays out their “mission, ownership, values, products, sustainability commitments and more.” After that, all of the materials submitted are measured against Grove’s standards, "including our 50+ No Way Ingredients list of banned ingredients and ingredient classes, claims around efficacy and performance, certifications related to product sustainability, sourcing, ingredients and any marketing claims. For the latter, this includes verifying if they claim to be vegan, Leaping Bunny Cruelty-Free certified, GOTS certified cotton, a B Corporation or anything else. And if brands do not meet the standards, we will not sell their products,” says Zimmerman. After that, an in-house sustainability team reviews the product portfolio to see if they meet the Grove’s Beyond Plastic™ standards. Rest assured, there's a lot of work that goes into ensuring the products on the site are of the highest quality.
What makes a brand stand out to Grove Co.?
When we asked Zimmerman what kind of brands catch his eye, he mentioned things like sustainability, efficacy, company leadership and more; asking himself if they’re a “mission-driven brand that wants to transform the consumer products industry in some way for good.” Grove itself is a certified B corporation with a dedication to limiting plastic use and impacting the environment in a positive way.
How can you shop at Grove Co.?
Customers can shop Grove's 3,000-plus products online, and they will come in as little as three days. Plus, shipping is free over $79 (and $6.95 otherwise) with free returns, too. And if you’re already familiar with the brand, perhaps you're not aware it’s no longer a subscription service and you don’t need a membership to purchase products (although you can become a VIP if you want some member perks!). But what remains the same is that you can be confident that each product is transparent in its ingredients, has been curated and vetted to high standards.
