10 Ornament Decorating Ideas for Every Room

'Tis the season to deck the halls — and the dining room and living room and kitchen and more! Spread joy to every room with these unique decorating ideas using Christmas ornaments.

A big branch could look like Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree this time of year, but not if it’s dripping with colorful ornaments. Place an oversized branch in a vase and decorate it like you would the real thing. The more ornaments, the merrier.

Tie a few together with fishing line or ribbon, glue tinsel to the back of the bundle, and add the arrangement to a gift.

“You can customize this idea to match the style or color of your other decor,” says Michael Wurm Jr. (@inspiredbycharm). He spray-painted the bottoms of these thrifted brass candlesticks a pretty seafoam green.

All you need for this cheery craft: a frame, canvas and hot glue. Christene Holder (@christeneholderhome) started by placing the bottom center ball first, and she assembled the tree from there. The trunk is a piece of scrap fabric!

Stacey-Ann Blake (@designaddictmom) picked jewel-toned balls to complement the cobalt wall in her living room, then she displayed them in vases and bowls of varying heights.

Amanda Evanston Freund (@amanda_evanston) tied red ribbons to colorful ornaments, then hung them from her crystal chandelier. It’s like having a sparkly tree suspended from the ceiling — and it looks even prettier with the lights on.

Hot-glue a metal grommet to the bottom of a ball so it will stand upright, then remove the top of the ornament where the hook would go. Fill with water and add your favorite blooms.

“The mix of matte, mirror and sparkly ornaments within the same color palette is festive but sophisticated,” says Alissa Carayannopoulos (@artfullyalissa). She included mercury-glass candleholders to bring some order to the arrangement. “They create a barrier to nestle the balls around and bring a glow to the table.”

Attach ornament hooks to small balls and poke the hooks through a basket. Add to multiple baskets and your room will look like Santa’s workshop!
