Spread Holiday Cheer With Creative Card Displays

‘Tis the season to receive holiday cards and well wishes from your nearest, dearest and everyone in between. While we love merry-mail as much as anyone, we’re less than enthused by the sight of our kitchen counters, dining buffet and entry consoles overrun by season’s greetings by mid-December. If you’re in the same boat, fret not friend. We’re here to share 25 stunning ways to showcase your ever-growing holiday card collection and bring festive flair to your space without tossing them in the bin before season’s end.

First up? Follow Leben Riebe’s lead and frame your fireplace with your most elegant illustrated holiday cards. Here, the vintage holiday decor collector attaches retro holiday cards to a lush cypress garland, securing each to an individual branch using mini clothespins. Recreate the look using your existing greenery and your favorite Christmas cards from years past. Pro tip: curate a collection of cards in similar color palettes (think: black and gold or red and green) to achieve a polished, thoughtful result.

Create a Christmas Card Cart

Roll out all the stops and greet your guests in style this holiday season with a merry, mobile card display. Recreate our inviting design using a rolling bar cart as your base. Fill the lower shelves with plaid-wrapped presents (the more the merrier!) and fresh evergreen clippings. Then, place a stately metal iron tree on top of the cart and fill its branches with familiar faces and merry motifs as you receive them, throughout the season. Finish off the display with glossy magnolia leaves for a fresh dose of green.

Make it Mod

Not afraid to play with power tools in the name of holiday cheer? We love to hear it. Get your craft on and recreate our DIY mod card tree to fill any underutilized space with mirth and merriment.

To make it, head to your go-to home improvement store and grab a 4x8-foot sheet of luan, latex paint, colored craft string, upholstery tacks or push pins,12-gauge wire, a tennis ball, picture nails, metallic duct tape, chalk and battery-operated LED twinkle lights.

Cut your luan to size (we recommend 5x3 feet) using a straight edge and chalk to mark a triangle, then cut it with a jigsaw. Use chalk to mark a small hole approximately 3 inches from the top of the center of the triangle for hanging, then use a ¼-inch paddle bit to drill the hole through. Paint or stain the luan the color of your choice, then attach brass tacks or pins 4 inches apart down the perimeter of the tree using your hammer. Starting at the very top, wrap your craft string around each tack or pin, criss-cross style, until you reach the bottom and cut the excess for a polished look. Fasten two strands of battery-operated LED twinkle lights around the perimeter of the back side of the tree, keeping them held in place with silver duct tape. Finally, add a nail to the wall and hang your sleek tree display by aligning the drilled hole with the nail. Showcase your holiday cards by attaching them to the string with clothespins or paperclips. Another idea? Open them and hang them along the fold.

From there, use your hot glue to connect forgotten letter blocks and spell out a seasonal greeting along the top of your board.
