A Steam Cleaner That We Tested (And Loved!) Is Being Recalled

The best-selling Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner, recently selected as our best overall steam cleaner pick, is being recalled.

The reason? “The steam cleaner’s boiler can rupture if it is overfilled, corroded and the pressure release valve malfunctions, posing risk of burn hazards or serious injury to users or bystanders,” according to a February 26 recall notice posted on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission website.

Why are the steam cleaners being recalled?

The portable Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner is being recalled due to the risk of burn hazards or serious injury. About 651,145 steam cleaners sold in the U.S. and 96,530 sold in Canada are subject to the recall. The units were “designed to clean, detail, sanitize and deodorize household surfaces,” the CPSC notes.

The Dupray Neat Steam Cleaners feature a white base with an attached flexible black hose as well as an accessory set that includes a variety of brushes and tools, dust cloths, and a Velcro pad.

The recalled steam cleaners feature the model number DUP020WNA and Batch/Date Code 0118-01 through 0425-05 on a rating label on the bottom of the white base.

Where were the steam cleaners sold?

The recalled portable Dupray Neat Steam Cleaners, which were manufactured in China and imported by Dupray USA LLC, of Newark, Delaware, were broadly available. They were sold nationwide online at dupray.com as well as in stores and online at retailers including Home Depot, Lowe’s, Macy’s, Walmart and Amazon, among others. Priced at about $150, the steam cleaners were available for purchase between April 2018 and December 2025.

Has anyone been injured from the recalled cleaners?

Unfortunately, yes. Fifteen boiler ruptures have been reported to the manufacturer. These incidents caused four injuries including minor burns, bruises and lacerations, as well as one broken wrist. At least seven incidents of ruptured boilers causing minor damage to property have also been reported.

What should you do if you have one of the recalled steam cleaners?

If you have one of the recalled portable Dupray Neat Steam Cleaners, you are directed to stop using it immediately. (Note that only certain model numbers and batch codes are affected.)

You can go to Dupray's website to find instructions on how to get a free replacement safety boiler cap (free shipping included) that the manufacturer says has been “designed to prevent malfunction.”

To confirm product eligibility to get the replacement cap, you will need to check the batch code found on the bottom of your cleaner. “Make sure the boiler is empty and the cap is securely fastened before flipping the product,” Dupray warns.

According to the CPSC recall notice, the replacement safety cap is “quick and easy to install with a simple screw-on design.”

You will also receive directions on how to dispose of the faulty cap in the package containing the replacement part.
