This Colonial home felt trapped in the past, with dark wood cabinets, brick fireplaces and other details weighing the design down. To bring the space into the present, Susan Jamieson lightened the kitchen with a mix of gray cabinets and open shelving, refinished the fireplaces and pulled in pretty pendant lights and colorful, contemporary furnishings.
