A Home Full of Cool Color Combos

When Amber Guyton bought this new-construction Craftsman-style bungalow in 2021, the possibilities were endless — for Amber and for the house. She was building her blog–turned–interior design business, Blessed Little Bungalow, and she saw every empty room as an opportunity to flex her creative muscles. “My home is my primary portfolio because it’s where I can try any new thing I happen to dream up,” says Amber, who lives here with her dog, Ralph. Her biggest move was to do away with the beige walls and create a distinct color scheme for each space. “I wanted my home to make me feel good and inspire others.”

The walls make a big first impression: Amber chose a rich mauve (Love Affair by Benjamin Moore) and had the painters stop partway up, creating a color-blocked look that highlights the lofted ceiling. A rug from Anthropologie with hints of pink complements the walls. The oversize yellow lamp is from Target.

The kitchen doesn’t get direct sunlight, and the original cabinets were a builder-basic dark wood, which made the room look even darker. Amber painted them a deep grayish green (Current Mood by Clare) and added brushed brass hex knobs from CB2 to brighten up the space. The blush counter stools are from Statements by J.

Amber echoed the colors from the adjacent living room and kitchen in the dining area: She continued with the mauve paint and chose sage velvet chairs from West Elm. Then she added some drama with a sculptural table from Burke Decor, a metallic cowhide rug by Luxury Cowhides and a mural of monstera leaves by local artist Michelle Kee.

The funky 1970s wallpaper in her grandparents’ homes inspired Amber to choose this sun and moon pattern by Jungalow. “It’s nostalgic for me, and I love when I see it peeking through the doorway from the kitchen,” she says.

Amber was set on painting her bedroom a dark color. “I wanted a cozy space for sleeping,” she says. Once she found a navy she liked (Pitch Cobalt by Valspar), she chose a chartreuse bed from Anthropologie and Lindsay Cowles kaleidoscopic wallpaper for the ceiling — with a lumbar pillow in the same pattern. "Throughout my house, gold is the common thread," says Amber. "It goes with everything!"

Amber repeated the wallpaper from her bedroom ceiling in this space to visually connect the two rooms. The semicircle knobs on the vanity doors are from CB2.

A local company, The Boardroom Accent Walls, helped Amber create this 3-D design with strips of MDF painted Really Teal by Sherwin-Williams. The channel-tufted bed, an old find from Urban Outfitters, is the only neutral in the room. She went big on color with a geometric rug by Loloi, a pink nightstand from Overstock and a sunny lamp from At Home. "This room feels like a Crayola box, which makes me happy," Amber says.

Amber turned this space into a whimsical hangout for her niece and nephews when they visit. She started with botanical wallpaper from Spoonflower, then added lotus flower pendants from Shades of Light and leopard-print armchairs. The couch from West Elm is a pullout, perfect for sleepovers.
