Kids' Craft: How to Make Recycled Crayons
Materials Needed:
- mini muffin pan
- wax crayons in assorted colors
- oven
Unwrap and Break Crayons
Remove paper wrappers from crayons then break them into small pieces. Tip: Use scented or glitter crayons for a fun twist.
Arrange Pieces in Muffin Pan
Place crayon pieces in the muffin pan, filling each circle at least half full. Try grouping color families together or create a rainbow all in one — get creative; there's no wrong way to do this project. Tip: For larger crayons, use a standard-sized muffin pan or novelty bakeware to create crayons in fun shapes.
Bake Crayons Then Remove From Pan
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until wax has completely melted. Remove pan from oven and allow to cool completely — overnight is best (Image 1). Once crayons have fully cooled, flip pan over and firmly tap each circle. If some of the crayons don't pop out easily, just place the pan in the freezer for 10-15 minutes then try again. They should come out with minimal effort and leave no residue on your pan (Image 2). Admire your pretty results, grab some paper and give each color a go (Image 3). These make wonderful, inexpensive birthday gifts or party favors for kids of all ages.
