How to Make an Outdoor Foot Wash Station
It's easier than ever to keep little (and big!) feet from tracking mud into the house with this clever cleaning station.

Materials Needed
- 2"x6"x8' redwood or pressure-treated lumber
- river stones
- 2-inch decking screws
- polyethylene weed fabric
- 1 pint polyurethane
- measuring tape
- drill
- staple gun
- paintbrush
- scissors
Pre-Cut Wood
You'll need four pieces of 2"x6" lumber, cut to 18 inches long. To avoid using a saw, ask your local home improvement store to do the cuts for you.

Assemble Box
Butt the four pieces together into a box shape, and secure using wood glue and three 2-inch decking screws on each corner.

Seal With Poly
Paint on the polyurethane to help seal the wood and protect it from moisture and UV rays.

Attach Weed Block
Cut a piece of weed block to fit the square. Secure the weed-blocking fabric to the bottom of the box using a staple gun.

Add Stones
Put the box in place, then fill with smooth river stones. Once the stones are in you can’t move the box around, so make sure your location is near the entry and you have easy access to a garden hose.

Provide Towels + Storage
One of the last steps to creating a foot wash the whole family will use is to make sure clean towels and shoe storage are handy.

Add Soap + Seating
Complete your foot wash station with soap (use an acrylic or plastic pump bottle for safety!) and a place to sit. This folding stool is the perfect spot to sit and take off dirty shoes. Plus, it's easy to store when not in use.
