Dine in Style: DIY Folding Farm Table

Having enough room for family and friends around the holidays is an ongoing issue. Folding tables are an easy solution, but nobody wants a big, plastic eyesore taking up so much room when the room’s been decorated to perfection. Folding farm tables, however, tuck out of site when not needed and, when needed, are a statement all on their own.
Materials Needed
- (5) 1x4 x 6’ pine boards
- (3) 1x2 x 16” pine boards
- tape measure
- pencil
- (15) 1” wood screws
- drill + bit
- hammer, screwdriver, screws (for distressing)
- palm sander
- dark stain + applicator
- folding table legs
- (8) 1/2" wood screws

Begin by laying the five 6-foot boards down adjacent and flush with one another. Using a tape measure, mark edge boards with a line 1-inch from each edge and in the middle. Next, align the three 16-inch boards with the marks on the boards. Drill pilot holes down each of the 16-inch boards, being sure to penetrate each of the larger boards as well. Run a screw into each of the pilot holes to draw the larger boards up tightly.

Using a hammer, screwdriver, screws and anything else you may have to do the job, heavily distress the tabletop. Once finished, sand with a palm sander to get rid of any splintering and ensure a smooth surface for staining. Thoroughly coat the surface with a dark wood stain, being sure to get stain into all the tiny cracks and crevices.
Attach Legs and Enjoy

Once the stain has dried, turn the table upside down and lay the folding table leg hardware in place. Drill pilot holes through each of the mounting hole slots. Attach the legs with wood screws. Just like that, your very own custom, folding farm table is complete!
