Do you struggle to keep a plant alive? Are you in need of a new craft project or a gift for Mother’s Day? As usual, TikTok has just the thing.
This video of a DIY beaded plant resembling a string of pearls succulent has garnered over nine million views and counting. Its creator, Linsey, credits Katie Roush for the idea, and viewers are feeling inspired to make their own.
“Beaded plants? The DIY crossover we didn’t know we needed but absolutely love,” Pinterest commented.
“No this is so cool I’m copying you,” another commenter says.
Linsey says the project is “super simple” and only requires a few items to make, which came out to around $20 at Joann and Hobby Lobby.
“I strung beads onto 20-gauge wire and made a loop at the end so they wouldn’t fall off, then stuck the other end in a piece of floral foam,” Linsey explains in the comments.
Gather Your Supplies
In a follow-up tutorial video, she adds that she wishes she had included moss to make the plant look more lifelike. Commenters suggest other details to add, like using brown beads for soil or repurposing beads from broken or thrifted jewelry. Another person recommends turning the plant into a lid for the pot so you can store trinkets inside.
Faux plants seem to be popular these days. Lego sells DIY bouquets and a kit to recreate van Gogh’s Sunflowers, and we’ve found beautiful glass, paper and crochet flowers that make great gifts. Maybe beaded succulents will be the next big thing.
