Those who yearn to hang museum-worthy masterpieces on their walls, but don’t have millions of dollars lying around to procure, say, an original by Dutch Post-Impressionist master Vincent van Gogh, do not have to Lego those dreams.

Lego is releasing a 2,615-brick set that lets you piece together one of van Gogh’s most famous works, Sunflowers, which the artist painted in 1889 during his time in Arles, France. The Lego Art Vincent van Gogh Sunflowers set drops on March 1 and was created in collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

The sunshine-gold floral Lego set follows the release, a few years ago, of a 2,316-piece set inspired by van Gogh’s Starry Night. (The Starry Night set resulted from a collaboration with The Museum of Modern Art in New York and features a moving arm that holds a cute little figure of van Gogh at work on the painting at his easel.)

The Sunflowers set seeks to capture in plastic bricks the “iconic brushstrokes” of the original and allow people “to immerse themselves in van Gogh’s art and to learn more about the inspiration behind one of his most beloved paintings,” according to a press release.

Dimensional and colorful, the set evokes the “three radiant shades of yellow” and “use of light and shade” and depicts the painting’s 16 sunflowers using “adjustable petals, a removable frame, a tile with van Gogh’s signature and a hanger element to display.”

“Imagine yourself as a painter in front of a blank canvas,” the toy-brick brand suggests. “Inspired by vibrant colors, the artwork is built by adding layers and layers of details until the Lego Art Sunflowers comes to life.”

Lego designer Stijn Oom said it was especially challenging, but of paramount importance, to translate “the impasto effect” of van Gogh’s original into the set’s Lego pieces “while preserving the painting’s asymmetrical yet balanced composition.” Oom says he felt the design team succeeded in bringing the spirit of the masterpiece to a new medium.

Rob Groot, managing director of the Van Gogh Museum, agrees. “It was wonderful to see how Lego Group and the experts of our museum have collaborated with such attention to detail and appreciation for the original artwork,” he said in a statement. “We hope this Lego set will inspire and engage new audiences with the art and life story of Vincent van Gogh.

The Lego Art Vincent van Gogh Sunflowers set, which is recommended for people 18 and up, is now available for pre-order at www.lego.com/sunflowers and Lego Stores and will be available for purchase starting March 1. The set, which measures approximately 16 inches wide by 2 inches deep by 21 inches high, will be priced at $199.99.
