Moss and Stone Bath Mats

Evoke the forest in your bathroom by creating this cool moss mat.

To create these mats you will need the following supplies: 1 lid from a plastic tote / preserved moss / any variety adhesive / scissors / non-slip shelf liner / 10 pounds of flat stones / measuring tape

My lid measures 18x22 and with a depth of 1/2 inch. You can choose any size.The first step is to attach non-slip shelf liner to the bottom of your lid. I used my lid as a template and cut the shelf material to size. In a well ventilated area, attach the liner to the lid with adhesive. Allow to dry for 30 minutes. 

When the bottom of your lid is dry, flip it over and begin to build your mat by adding moss. I chose to use preserved moss because of the bold colors that are available. Preserved moss is available in most craft stores. I used 4 bags for this project.To create a patchwork effect choose a variety of mosses. Apply adhesive to your lid and press the moss into place.

Continue to add moss, filling in any gaps and pressing into place.

The base of your mat will be made from the non-slip shelf liner. Choose a liner that is a similar in color to your stones. Measure and cut your liner to size.

Working on a plastic drop cloth in a well ventilated area, begin to lay out your stones. Start in the center and work out toward the edges gluing the stones into place as you go.

Once all of your stones are glued into place allow your mat to dry for 24 hours.
