Supplemental Lighting
A pharmacy floor lamp with an oil-rubbed bronze finish and transitional style were placed by each sofa, to provide supplemental lighting for the room. The floor lamps free up floor space that would be required for side tables with table lamps.

Low-Slung Sofas
The parlor's two low-slung leather navy sofas with kiln dried solid wood frames have vertical channeling that goes up and down the sofas and adds an extra touch of visual interest to this inviting space that seats about ten people.

Patterned Pillows
Blue and navy Ikat throw pillows on the two sofas provide comfort and add another touch of color and pattern to the parlor. The use of navy, French blue and indigo throughout the space offer contrast for the feminine design details in this parlor.

Botanical Walls
The walls of the parlor are covered with a raffia, similar to grass cloth. The wall covering features a beautiful botanical print that looks like cherry blossoms with a white background, navy branches and French blue blossoms. "All the trim has been painted to coordinate with that paper in a really deep shade of navy in high gloss," says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Focal Point Fixture
A globe chandelier illuminates the parlor from above. The metal frame chandelier features a safe and durable acrylic globe that looks and feels like frosted glass dissected by a central band of polished nickel that adds eclectic modern style to the room.

Trendsetting Tables
A pair of round coffee tables with durable concrete tops over an open metal frame are a play on the round shape of the globe chandelier above. The tables allow good traffic flow in and out of the seating area and offer a place to rest a drink, display books and hold a ceramic white pot with fern.

Updated Fireplace
The parlor previously had an old fireplace with a window on the right side, which created a room that lacked symmetry. The old fireplace was replaced with a new ventless gas fireplace, and second window was added to make the room feel more balanced. The parlor's fireplace now includes a Cincinnati mantel from a local salvage company and locally-made tiles in the same navy blue as the trim. “Previously the fireplace was not functional,” says project manager Dan Faires. “We added this gas fireplace that warms the space and adds ambiance, a nice asset for this parlor.”

Swanky Silk Rug
A 9x12 handmade wool area rug with a silver-blue tone-on-tone pattern picks up on the other blue design details, anchors the seating area and adds a touch of softness and warmth to the parlor.

Open Storage
Under the two windows that flank the fireplace sit two metal and glass console tables with outdoor table lamps that have a white bulbous base. Assorted coffee table books and decorative accessories like a silver and marble clock and antique decoy duck decorate the shelves of the console tables.

Balanced Space
The painting features a style inspired by famed Abstract Expressionist painter Mark Rothko, who used soft, rectangular forms floating in saturated colors. "This room is rather minimal because the wall covering is busy in a good way," says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Neutral Backdrop
Like the rest of this urban home's main level, the parlor has a prefinished engineered hardwood floor in a medium tone that provides a neutral backdrop and adds warmth to this elegant space.

Private Sanctuary
This view from the entry into the parlor shows the home's original pocket doors that allow the parlor to be closed off, to make the space feel like a private sanctuary away from the rest of the home's more open and communal main living areas.
