Outside Inspiration

According to interior designer Linda Woodrum, the bedroom walls were executed under a very fast-paced timeline. “The room was a metamorphosis when we went up,” says Linda. “The boards (along the walls) replicate the vertical board and battens that are outside on the exterior of the house, so that’s the connection.” By mirroring the outside look within the master bedroom, the home’s modern, Texas style is elevated and really driven home.

The sparkling, contemporary chandelier is a gorgeous highlight in the space. According to the house planner, Jack Thomasson, “There was a very deliberate orientation of that fixture, so that at night time, when the light is on and you’re on the street, it’s like this perfect framing of the fixture from the front of the house. We spent a lot of time working on getting it the right distance from the ceiling to see it from the street, and it looks really cool.”

“The skylights have blackout shades and work from a remote as well as off of an app,” says Jack. “They are a beautiful feature in the house, and they bring wonderful natural light into the space. Plus, with the electronics, they add a lot of versatility to whether you want to black out a room, let the light in, or even open them remotely to let heat out of the house.”

An in-room wet bar with a penny tile backsplash is a convenient touch to this smart master bedroom. “By using a remote control, the area where the coffee maker is can lift up to reveal a shelf beneath the coffee maker where we have a martini maker and cocktail utensils.,” explains Jack. “It’s really cool, because it converts from a coffee maker area to a fun, kind of kitschy smart feature.”
