Open to the great room, the kitchen is designed with bold cabinetry, clever storage and a wooden island. A brilliant blue and white color scheme keeps the eye entertained.

At the heart of the kitchen is a designated dining spot for a casual breakfast spread or dinner.

The breakfast bar is a stand out feature with plenty of storage and a mounted flat-screen TV. "It's so convenient," says interior designer Linda Woodrum. "The everyday things that you use are out."

Coffee is made easy with a stainless steel coffee machine that's programmable to brew a pot before homeowners wake up.

Custom cabinetry provides clever storage for mugs, sugar and gourmet coffee.

The paper-towel drawer holds three rolls, one on display and two tucked away, making changing out the empty roll easy and convenient.

There's plenty of counterspace for preparing meals and washing dishes. Surround sound speakers in the ceiling stream music, making kitchen work fun and entertaining.

A chrome motion-sense faucet makes cleaning up a breeze. The hands-free control activates with simple hand movements.

Large enough to accommodate heavy pots and pans or a heap of dishes, a stainless steel undermount sink pairs perfectly with the motionsense faucet.

White quartz countertops lend contemporary style and ample space for preparing meals.

Continuing a focus on bright and spotless, all-purpose cleaning supplies are fresh-smelling and tough-acting.

A custom-built oak island is one of the crowning features in this kitchen. "It's your island for working and you can eat at it," explains interior designer Linda Woodrum. "It's the perfect combo."

With room to store utensils, napkins and spices, island drawers make smart use of space.

Electrical outlets located on each end of the island make plugging in appliances easy and convenient.

The island creates an informal gathering spot at the center of the kitchen. "We wanted it to feel like a dining table but still function," says interior designer Linda Woodrum.

Two upholstered chairs and four stools surround the island. "We wanted a couple of chairs to be extremely comfortable," says interior designer Linda Woodrum. "To save on space we used four stools that slipped under the island."

With the grill station close by, there is plenty of room indoors and outdoors for a casual summer party.

Recessed lighting and a rustic iron light fixture illuminate the kitchen and are controlled with dimmers, setting the mood for any occasion. "Keeping the kitchen light and open makes the space feel bigger," says interior designer Linda Woodrum.

Visible from the kitchen, the mudroom and pantry offer tons of storage for any kitchen overflow.

Custom-designed blue cabinetry establishes the room's bold color palette and sophisticated style.

The chrome pot filler is the ultimate luxury for the in-house chef.

The four-burner gas cooktop and a griddle offer pro-style amenities for whipping up a casual breakfast or dinner for a group.

Under-stove storage drawers make space for pots and pans.

Black and white mosaic basketweave wall tile adds a splash of contrast and pattern to the bold blue cabinetry.

An oven, warming drawer and microwave stacked one atop another provide convenience and enough cooking space to accommodate food for large parties and holiday gatherings.

The dark staines wood island contrasts well against the blue shaker cabinets and black and white basket weave tile backsplash. Touches of green add warmth to the deep blues in this kitchen.

The deck and grilling station are accessible via a traditional-style, back door between the kitchen and great room.
