Tour a Florida Condo Covered in Pretty Pastels

Ginger Miller isn’t prone to impulse buys (“not even at T.J. Maxx!” she says), but when she toured this waterfront condo in Punta Gorda, Florida, she had to have it. “I was so tired of the cold winters back home in West Virginia!”

Her offer was accepted five days later. She and her husband, Curtis, who owns an insurance agency, hired designer Alisha Gwen to give the blank box a beachy makeover — and they went big on pastels. Alisha started by picking patterned drapery for each room, then she developed the color scheme from there. Ginger and Curtis stay here up to a few weeks every month, and occasionally their children and grandkids come along. “There’s nothing better than a full house,” Ginger says. “That’s exactly what we’d hoped for when we bought this place.”

"We wanted our kids and grandkids to be able to sit together comfortably in this room," says Ginger. A day bed plus two large sofas mean no one is left out of the fun! The blue one, from Vanguard Furniture, is a family favorite: “It’s big and cozy and provides a focal point for the room,” says Ginger. Alisha accessorized the room with prints from Wendover Art Group and lamps from The Natural Light. The Stark rug ties the coastal colors together.

The coral table from Highland House is Ginger’s favorite piece in this room. “We pull over an extra seat when everyone’s in town, and there’s still plenty of room,” she says. Alisha added linen shades to the Visual Comfort & Co. chandelier to give it a more coastal look.

Ginger sips her morning coffee in this nook. “It’s a great place to chat and look out at the ocean,” she says. The chairs are from Century Furniture — and they swivel! “The grandkids get a kick out of them,” says Ginger. The pair of hat and sunglasses paintings are by Timothy Carter. "The colors in the paintings are the perfect match for this space. I fell in love with them!" says Alisha.

When Alisha suggested a chevron backsplash from Oceanside Glass & Tile, Ginger wasn’t sure, but her daughter encouraged her to go for it. “She told me to get out of my comfort zone,” Ginger says. “She was right. I love it!” The pendants are from Hudson Valley Lighting and the stools are from Serena & Lily.

Alisha chose scalloped tile from Pratt + Larson to match the seafoam cabinets (painted Frosted Emerald by Sherwin-Williams). “It looks like a mermaid tail!” she says. Rattan pendants from Arteriors and patterned stools round out the tropical look. Curtis and Ginger take turns bartending: He loves a gin and tonic; she prefers an Aperol spritz.

Ginger and Curtis wanted a soothing color scheme for their bedroom, and this lavender-and-mint combo was perfect. Alisha anchored the room with a trellisprint rug from Stark. Fun fact: The trim on the sheets in each bedroom matches the room’s color. “When you’re doing laundry you know where the sheets go!” Ginger says. The nightstand is from Villa & House and the lamp is from Chelsea House.

Alisha installed floral wallpaper from Schumacher to spruce up this space. “It’s a statement, but I love everything about it,” Ginger says. The mirror is from Made Goods and the framed art is from Wendover Art Group.

Ginger’s grandsons claimed this fun room for their visits. The Peter Dunham curtains came first, then Alisha built the room around them. She found the blue beds at Vanguard Furniture and chose green China Seas pillows to match.
