Porte + Hall Doormats Are in a League of Their Own—Here's Why
The ultra-slim indoor door mats are as slip-proof as it gets, and they have impressively low door clearance to boot.

Once upon a time, as a mid-20-something living in New York City, I had roommates who didn’t share my passion for bright colors, fun prints and dopamine decor as a whole. Because of this, when I moved into my first solo apartment, I set out to find the most eye-catching furniture and homewares to fill my space—items that thoroughly sparked joy. It was during this period that I discovered Porte + Hall, a doormat brand that specializes in fun and functional designs. As soon as I saw the Green Fan print, I was sold—but only enough to purchase the doormat, for I wanted to see the quality before investing in a runner. As it turns out, I wasn’t the only one to fall head over heels for the Green Fan print—a spectacular Art Deco-esque design—and Porte + Hall as a whole. Apparently, many other people did, too, leading to the Green Fan runner being sold out for months on end, to the extent that I eventually forgot all about expanding my floor collection. Fast forward to 2026, though, and my editor asked me if I was familiar with the trendy brand and willing to work on a comprehensive review. I responded with an immediate ‘Yes.’ Keep reading to learn why.
What Are Porte + Hall Doormats?
Porte + Hall doormats are ultra-thin, slip-resistant, water-absorbent doormats designed to fit seamlessly in hard-floor entryways and other areas throughout the home. The high-quality doormats are in a league of their own thanks to their ultra-grippy backing that adheres to floors without leaving any marks behind once they’re moved, and for their stylish designs that instantly elevate the home.
Logistically, Porte + Hall Insider Mats—what the brand is best known for—are crafted with a jacquard-weave polyester face atop a flexible (and absorbent!) Polypropylene/Polyethylene mid-layer and clingy TPE base. The result is a soft-to-the-touch, incredibly-lightweight, seriously secure doormat that doesn’t budge underfoot but is super easy to roll or fold up when not in use.
The brand’s most popular outdoor doormat—The Outlier—is made entirely of TPE and is notably thicker and more neutral in tone. It’s beloved for its mold-resistant, ventilated, rubber-bristled geometric design.
How I Tested Porte + Hall Doormats
To comprehensively review the Porte + Hall Bestsellers portfolio, I tested The Insider Doormat, The Insider Runner, The Insider Area Mat and The Outlier.
Ease of Placement:
Despite selecting three different products (I already had The Insider Doormat for years), I was pleasantly surprised to find that all of the mats weighed less than four pounds each. (In my opinion, few home decor items are more irksome than ultra-stiff, unnecessarily cumbersome doormats and rugs—so right off the bat, Porte + Hall impressed me.) Considering how much the mats vary in size, that just goes to show how slim these floor coverings really are. While The Insider Doormat, Runner and Area Mat are identical in depth and materials, their dimensions vary, measuring 27 inches by 36 inches, 27 inches by 79 inches and 54 inches by 78 inches, respectively. Meanwhile, The Outlier is made of thicker, more durable materials, given it’s designed for the outdoors, and measures 21 inches by 36 inches. Still, it’s a breeze to unbox and put in place.
Speaking of placement, I’ve had The Insider Doormat by my front door for years. When we moved in late 2025, I switched it to my back door because my new entryway is larger and needed a bigger mat. When my new Porte + Hall mats arrived, I placed the Navy Maze Area Mat in my entryway, the Green Fan Runner in my kitchen and the Chestnut Outlier on my back stoop. Everything fits perfectly. What’s more, the Doormat never gets stuck or crumpled under our front door; it glides smoothly over the top in the most satisfying way possible.
Performance:
The biggest difference between The Insider and The Outlier doormats is that the former is ⅛ of an inch thick and features a woven face, and the latter is 100 percent TPE and ¾ of an inch thick. While reading these measurements might make you second-guess how durable Porte + Hall doormats are, rest assured, they’re impeccably functional. The Insider grips my hardwood floors with ease, while The Outlier stays perfectly put on our concrete stoop, and the bristled design expertly cleans shoes (and paws!) for spotless re-entry to the home.
While I’ve been testing The Outlier, The Insider Runner and Area Mat for a couple of weeks, I’ve had The Insider Doormat for three years, which I think is a testament to just how well-made these mats are. I was skeptical about whether or not the woven face would hold up well, especially because it has some white in the design, but it seems to repel dirt and maintain its color with little to no effort on my part.
Cleaning:
Speaking of dirt, the Porte + Hall doormats are quite easy to clean. The brand recommends sweeping off The Insider mats and hosing them down with a high-power hose if need be. Similarly, they suggest hosing down The Outlier. While I’ve not needed to hose down any of The Insider mats, I tested The Outlier just to see. Sure enough, a quick spritz and it looks good as new (though, admittedly, it wasn’t wildly dirty in the first place and the Chestnut color works beautifully to disguise dirt).
What I Love About Porte + Hall Doormats
They’re aesthetically pleasing.
I love that The Insider mats are sold in a bunch of fun colors and prints. Even the neutral options are designed with eye-catching patterns to keep them from looking the slightest bit boring. While the Fan and Maze prints are my personal favorites, I can see the crocodile, cheetah and rainbow-shaped neutrals being top picks for many.
As for The Outlier, the mat is sold in a solid color, but the unique geometric design keeps it as interesting as it is functional. Plus, the Chestnut color looks like a slab of terracotta, which I love.
They’re truly slip-proof.
I’m wildly impressed by how stable these thin mats are on my hardwood floors. They perform even better than our rugs with pads. Need I say more?
They’re highly durable.
Again, I’ve only been testing the majority of these mats for a couple of weeks, but considering I’ve had one Insider for years and it’s held up through hundreds of entries and exits during that time, color me highly impressed with the durability.
What I Don’t Love About Porte + Hall Doormats
They’re not machine washable.
My main complaint about Porte + Hall is that The Insider is not machine-washable. In a world where so many thin rugs are machine-washable, I think it could be easy to purchase one of these mats, without reading the fine print, assuming that it can be tossed in. In reality, doing that can destroy the rubber backing, which is arguably what makes these indoor mats so special in the first place.
Additionally, they’re not meant to be vacuumed. While I definitely have vacuumed my Doormat, the brand warns that doing so can disrupt the woven front. So, if you’re intent on powering up your Dyson or letting your Roomba run wild, beware.
Popular designs take a while to restock.
The only other meh point worth mentioning is that popular designs can take a long time to restock. I learned this firsthand when I fell for the Green Fan design back in the day. It’s possible that it was just a super busy time for the brand, but something I feel worth sharing nonetheless, as if you see a print you love, you might just want to buy all the items you’re interested in and return any that don’t work out. Speaking of, shoppers have 30 days to return products that they’re not fully satisfied with, for a full refund back to their card. The shipping fee will be deducted from the total, though.
Bottom Line: Are Porte + Hall Doormats Worth Buying?
Without a doubt, yes. While all of the Porte + Hall mats have their place in the home, if I had to pick, I’d say that The Insider Doormat and Runner, and The Outlier are the most common picks because they really streamline difficult-to-cater-to areas. The Area Mat is great, too, but it's best for extra-wide entryways and mudrooms, which not all homes have.
