Our favorite Narwal vacuum is the Freo Pro. Upon switching it on for the first time, it immediately started simultaneously mapping and vacuuming the space (whereas others map first before doing a cleaning session), and it was remarkably quiet! Since the sound was hardly noticeable, we assumed it was only mapping, not cleaning, when it was, in fact, doing both. It’s quiet enough that you could watch TV or even sleep while it’s running.

The suction power is really strong, considering the low noise level. It almost silently sucked up the whole Cheerios in a single pass without crushing them. Though it’s not specifically a wet/dry vac, it did pick up a small puddle of soda from the floor and then mopped the area to remove any stickiness.

This robot vacuum has two large tanks in its base station, one for clean water and one for dirty water. It uses the clean water for mopping the floors and washing the mop pads, then feeds it into the dirty water tank. The vacuum comes with a small HEPA dust bag (you’ll have to buy replacements) that uses compacting technology to compress the debris so it can fit more. Then once it’s full, you can toss the sealed bag without re-exposing your indoor air to the allergens.

The Freo Pro also performed well with navigation. It learned the space quickly, didn’t get stuck anywhere and seemed to improve with every use. We also like how it has voice notifications to tell you things like “top cover not in place,” so you know exactly what to do if it’s not starting.

If you're skeptical of a large base station when looking to buy a robot vac, Narwal’s Freo X Plus might be a better choice. It has a super small footprint, with a minimalist charging base and no large tanks. Within the actual robot is a dirt bin, plus a compressible HEPA dust bag. After collecting debris in the bin, it's transferred to the bag and compacted down, so you don’t have to replace it as often.

This vacuum also has a small water tank on the robot. It uses the water for mopping but doesn’t suck up liquids or wash its mop pads. (You can use a disposable or washable pad — it comes with both).

The Freo X Plus sucked up all the Cheerios without a fuss, along with lots of dust and smaller debris like crumbs and dirt, living up to its claim of removing more than 99 percent of particles from hard flooring. It also does a very tight line when cleaning the floorboards and corners of a room.

Though this robot vacuum works a bit better on hard floors than rugs, it has a smart carpet sensor that dictates when and where not to mop. It claims to suck up hairs as long as 16 inches without tangling, so this would be a good option for homes with pets or cleaning bathroom floors.

We were shocked by how quietly it runs, even when simultaneously mopping and vacuuming. The navigation was satisfactory, too, quickly creating cleaning paths and avoiding all obstacles.

Those who want all the bells and whistles should consider the Freo Z Ultra. This robot vacuum stands out for its elevated features. With LiDAR 4.0 navigation, it can detect over 100 obstacles in its surroundings (even complex shapes, like cords), avoiding them while still cleaning as close as possible. It also detects moving obstacles like people and pets, knowing when to go around them and returning when the cleaning path is clear.

This is a wet/dry vac and mop combo. It performed well on all counts, quickly detecting and sucking up the whole Cheerios, then lowering down to suction spilled milk, and mopping the area to remove any sticky residue.

The Freo Z Ultra has two side brushes, a fuzzy floorboard attachment, two mop pads and a roller brush. It makes big promises and delivers. We were impressed by how well it cleaned the edges of rooms and sucked up both large and fine debris. It also did great on carpets and rugs, where it automatically lifts the mop pads and increases the suction to get deep into the fibers.

The noise level is pretty quiet when the robot is cleaning, but the emptying, washing and drying at the base station is a bit noisy. While the charging station is large and not visually appealing, we don’t see this as a deal-breaker since it’s doing so much at its home base. Like the other Narwal models, it has a compressible dust bag that seals in allergens. But the bag lives in the charging station, so it’s larger and can go longer before needing to be replaced.

Although this robot vac is undoubtedly pricey, it might be worth investing in the top-of-the-line functionality. Plus, Narwal backs it with a one-year warranty, and you can get an extended warranty with unlimited repairs for extra peace of mind.
