Family-Friendly Kitchen Island
For a family with three young children, “access and durability were key kitchen design considerations,” says DeLeon. After considering a traditional island with counter-height seating, she opted for a more manageable, easier access arrangement; – a 36"-high island with a built-in banquette and stylish, generously sized dining table by End Grain Furniture and Design featuring a reclaimed top and glass overlay.

Vibrant Study Space
The study features custom built-in bookcases by Bergen County-based FEA Designs, while the glass desk is decorated by Jonathan Adler’s charming horse lamp. The homeowners’ vintage mid-century white cane-back barrel chairs are finished with cotton cushions in shades of gray and lilac to complement the vintage purple rug.

Nautically Inspired
This boy’s retreat offered the added challenge of designing around the room’s existing architectural features. “Because of the shape of the room, there was only one wall to accommodate a bed,” DeLeon said. The room features a custom upholstered headboard with nail-head trim flanked by built-in window seats by FEA Designs. A classic navy tone-on-tone color palette is executed in the diamond-patterned headboard, navy hounds tooth window cushions and Roman shades in navy pinstripe velvet.

Master Bedroom Oasis
DeLeon united two separate living areas within the master bedroom, using a matching pair of shag rugs. Their silver gray shade sets the tone for the room, which features a sophisticated sitting area for two with matching Moda chairs by H Studio, artfully upholstered in beige velvet with coordinating damask velvet.

Room to Relax
Inspired by a vintage Moroccan daybed with classic mosharabi wood panels, DeLeon infused the master bedroom sitting room with an eclectic Mediterranean vibe. “We wanted to create a nook that felt a little bit exotic, but was comfortable enough for the kids to play,” explains DeLeon. The black painted daybed is accessorized with an assortment of Madeline Weinrib pillows in colors that complement the oversized tufted ottoman in turquoise velvet. Neutral velvet panels, an over-dyed vintage rug by ABC Carpet and Home and Phillip Jeffries’ glass-beaded wallpaper keep the overall mood subtle with a sophisticated shimmer.

Cozy Sitting Space
Ottomans in textured velvet stripe pick up the rug’s two-tone shading while a coppery glass cube table, weathered basket and Lucite lamp bases work to capture DeLeon’s affinity for mixing metallic and flat finishes for a look that’s opulent yet understated.

Plush Living Space
The living room features a pair of high-back tufted wing chairs by Christopher Guy and a barely-there acrylic cocktail table by Diane Paparo. “The chairs set the room’s monochromatic tone and blend beautifully with the tufted crushed-velvet sofa in a rich shade of chocolate and vintage over-dyed rug,” said designer Vanessa DeLeon. Pops of turquoise and pink add a bit of color to the space.

Elegant Dining
A glamorous chandelier sits above a round Hudson Furniture table that can accommodate eight, while the chairs are upholstered in a soft shade of stone crushed velvet. The room’s spectacular windows are finished with simple custom white linen panels with a subtle sheared texture.

Jewel-Toned Kitchen
The kitchen features a faux leather banquette on two sides (with a cushioned back and seat for extra comfort), fabricated by Evelyn’s Creations in Richfield, N.J., and a pair of George II Lucite chairs by Plexi-Craft provide ample seating. Calacatta gold marble countertops and backsplash set the neutral tone for the kitchen’s monochromatic color palette, a soft mix of walnut-stained wood, absolute black granite and mother- of -pearl, all tied together with milky white cabinets by FEA Designs. Over the island, a pair of wrought- iron Arteriors chandeliers with an oil-rubbed bronze finish cast a subtle glow. “I wanted to mix silver, gold and bronze to create a jewel -tone element here. Nothing glitzy or trendy, but timeless with sparkle,” DeLeon says of blending high-shine finishes such as polished nickel faucets with antique brass hardware.

Understated Office Space
The cool grays tones that are apparent throughout the house transition easily into the home office, as defined by the steel-toned drapery and plush area rug.

Rustic Bar Area
“For this basement entertainment area, the homeowners envisioned an elegant, yet relaxed space without the structured formality of bar stools,” DeLeon said. The designer paired the warmth of reclaimed wood planks with broad expanses of white natural quartz by Caesarstone on the bar and white Thassos marble on the backsplash. End Grain Furniture and Design built the bar on site, maintaining a live edge to impart a sense of movement and keeping its raw top and irregular burn marks to create contrast of color and enhance its aged appearance. Behind the bar, FEA Designs built and stained custom cabinetry to echo the floor’s rich wood stain. A collection of five pendant light fixtures in varying shapes enhances the feeling of warmth, while an antique mirror behind the bar adds a dose of Old World glamour.
